Sampai jumpa, Troy…

Troy had a profound effect on surfboard manufacturing in Indonesia. As one of the hardworking backbones of Bali’s exploding surfboard industry, Troy helped transform Indonesia into a global hotspot for surfboard manufacturing.

He taught and mentored many young Indonesian board builders, creating an elite team of shapers, glassers, and sanders to pump out an incredible amount of boards.

He helped kickstart our local surf team, starting with Westen… then @dylan_wilcoxen__ and then @kalani_ryan_ With our annual trips to Kandui, every year we got more kids on the program: @kyajoheuer @all_day_alin @ifransurf @izrel_sababalat @alif_surf2 , of course @philipduke_ and a bunch of kids from Lakey Peak.
While these kids might not even fully realize it, Troy played a massive role in their surfing journeys.
Over the years, he personally made sure they all got their boards on time for their contests and surf trips.

Just this past year, he experienced what any board-builder would dream of: his son, Westen, winning the Padang Cup on boards Troy had worked closely on with Matt Biolos.

He loved getting all the groms’ boards fine-tuned for competitions with sharp rails, light and tight glass jobs, and slightly tighter fin clusters.

On weekends, he would go watch the groms grind out heats at the sandbars.

Troy would break down the heats, debating whether the judges got it right, or figuring out which kid needed a little more or a little less volume.
More than often @westenhirst_ would win.

For the most part, if you got a board from us over the past 10 years, there is a good chance Troy made it happen. Rush jobs, boat trips, delivering boards to remote areas. Countless weekends and days off were spent getting boards finished, whether they were for Mason Ho or just a regular guy heading out for a holiday at Kandui Resort.

Troy made surfboards, great surfboards.

Sometimes life isn’t fair… and sometimes we need to shine light where there is darkness.

Troy was our friend. We honor his hard work, his passion, and his absolute dedication to our craft.

Rest in Peace Brother…. @troy_hirst

Never let the fear of striking out, get in the way of a good time with friends…

Another @lost_indo mission, this time to the South Sumatra Zone. The crowds weren’t bad, but the waves were. But not to fear, we had our crew of young high performance surf-addicts to take on the daily abuse of mixed up side shore beach break…

While @matt_biolos and I would be watching the beachbreak sessions going down and asking ourselves, are we getting too old for this? 😂

We got to sneak off and find a right hand reef break, and get some boards into the local surf shop @leafys_krui so all was not …Lost on the incredible amount of time and effort it took to get there.
So, this special corner in #Indonesia is now completely locked and loaded with @lostsurfboards and @futuresfins and ready to appease all of the barrel killers and slab hunters that frequent this part of the world…
