By an overwhelming majority, Whitney Museum Union members have ratified a memorandum of agreement. The contract includes significant increases to wages (especially for our lowest compensated colleagues), increases parental and bereavement leave, and further opens lines of communication between the union and management on health and safety issues.   It took many months of negotiations and would not have been possible without the strength of all the members of the bargaining unit who supported us throughout the process. 💙 Thank you for your solidarity 💙 by @whitneymuseumunion

Whitney Museum Union members have voted to authorize a Strike if necessary. After months at the bargaining table, the museum is continuing to offer Whitney workers crumbs. Whitney workers will not settle for anything less than a Fair Contract 📑

The Whitney Museum Union is BACK in at the bargaining table for our second contract. To get the word out, we planned to (peacefully, calmly, cooly) hand out leaflets and buttons outside the Museum’s annual Gala fundraiser. Perhaps unsurprisingly, we were met with police barricades spanning the front of the building which were pushed up to the edge of the sidewalk (not peaceful, not calm, not cool). The Museum created an intentionally antagonistic and potentially hazardous situation but our members were able to have some great conversations with artists and patrons about the union anyway. #whitneymuseumunion #whitneymuseum #hotmuseumsummer #uaw by @whitneymuseumunion

New year, same fight for a fair contract. After over a year of negotiations over our first contract, we are still at odds with museum leadership over the most critical issues that drove us to organize in the first place: fair wages, guaranteed benefits, and health and safety protections.

UNION ACTION TONIGHT

We remain far apart from Management on all critical items, including their miscategorization of many positions as non-union, abuse of “temporary” employee status, and insultingly low-ball compensation counter proposal. At 6:30PM tonight, we will rally outside of the Museum during the annual Gala, which is the largest fundraiser of the year. Senior management cannot ignore us if we turn out in full force! #whitneymuseumunion #WMU

Where are we in negotiations?
In the Museum’s counter proposal, Management reserved its right to increase the cost of our health benefits if premiums increase and to charge carriers even if it results in worse benefits. Furthermore, the Museum rejected our proposal for double time for Facilities staff who have to report to work during emergencies, such as blizzards or other hazards. #whitneymuseumunion #WMU
