Halloween Party

I’m just here for the skeletons
and creepy haunted pelicans?
For the tall guy with the eye patch
for the sexy pixie with her waist snatched
for the pumpkin with no teeth
all the free potato chips I can eat
the chocolates, the spiders, ghosts,
The Thriller Michael Jackson
and the true crime serial killer
the good witch and the bad
that one guy dressed like your dad
for spin the bottle
the Disney princess
and that one girl who made her dress
for the laughter and the mess
spooky lighting
fake blood
grown men fighting

(candy laced laced with drugs)

I’m just here for the skeletons
the haunted house
the haunted doll
the haunted landline when we make a call
to the pizza place
the delivery gal
trick or treating for tips
from the Limber Jill
And Jack, of course, who fell down the hill
he broke his crown
Royal
That’s a damn shame

I’m just here for the skeletons
the high heels causing pain
fish nets and pumpkin spice
the astronauts, ballerinas, doctors,
pilots, ducks, bunnies, talking banana
and sushi with rice

I’m just here for the skeletons
of spirits that passed
the Ouija board, tarot card
physic, clairvoyant, Candle flicker
police man, mail carrier, that fisherman in a slicker

I’m here for the skeletons

and the spectacle
where one night a year
make believe is acceptable
👻

(star over)

I was thinking of starting over
(not without you of course)
(never without you)

I’d start with where I sleep
how I move my feet
what I eat
and keep

a new house in a new town
a smile not a frown
a new name and a game where I win

I’d be in touch
with the earth, the trees, the water, the wind
the star over it all
star over the start over
new place, new face, new pace
not a damn race to who can burn out while rusting

just a little piece of easy peace, please.

I just need about six months of sleep like this. How about you?
✨
Sleep

soft as the satin ear of a puppy
plush like the hair of a rabbit
quiet like midnight streets quilted in snow
cozy as piping hot stew
comfortable as a cat curled by the fire
dreamy like champagne bubbles
floating like a feather in a breeze

Being Beautiful

To be beautiful
if not my face
maybe just my smile
If not my smile
maybe just my body
If not my body
maybe just my voice
if not my voice
maybe just my song
If not my song
maybe just my words
maybe just my art
my heart

Sometimes you just need to make a great big Thursday evening banana bread, loaded with chocolate chips and pecans. This was my first time trying @healthycrunch coconut sugar chocolate chips. They worked well! #glutenfree #chocolatechips #pecans #thursdaybaking by @whitneysweet_writes

I’ve been diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) with non-epileptic seizures (PNES). I’ve decided to share so others are aware they aren’t alone. Our mental health matters! #fnd #fndawareness #pnes #pnesseizures #mentalhealth PS, pictures featured are taken by me. by @whitneysweet_writes

This poof project was already in progress (modelled here by my wonderful husband @paulcharbs) when I came across an ad for something similar, for almost $400! That version was a bit bigger and made from jute and cotton, my version is acrylic yarn. It got me thinking, would people be interested in hand made poof/ floor cushions, made of acrylic yarn, at a more affordable price? I could do different patterns and custom colours too. What do you think? #crochet #handmade by @whitneysweet_writes

A cozy scarf and matching baggy hat are today’s finished project. Fun fact, everything I make is freestyle, using traditional stitches.

Where I live, they build subdivisions on all the best farmland.
.
Rectangles

Oh hey,
Remember farms?
The honest to goodness wholesomeness
humanity built this
an epoch named for our movement
so important we put down actual roots

now we put up rooves where hooves trod
foundation walls where the roots creeped
excavated top soil
can’t let the homes to spoil
identical rooms built in rectangles inside rectangles,
inside streets of rectangles with sidewalks to
identical corners

in the rectangle fridge where the food lives all labeled and plasticed and travelled to be
chopped on the rectangle board
onto the rectangle pan
into the rectangle oven
on the rectangle fork, cut with the rectangle knife

what is this life?
where are the farmers? and I don’t blame them a bit, filled their pockets with rectangle paper when offered for plots of their rectangular land
because they were in debt, worked hard all their lives, and lives behind in time, on that land that they cared for
and some rectangular store threw away half of their produce for not being perfect
for their rectangular boxes, all wrapped in plastic

everyone alone, in their home, eating rectangle food, at their rectangle table, watching their rectangle screens
sleeping in rectangle bead with rectangle pillows
wondering why potatoes are so expensive
using their rectangle cards to transfer invisible money to a major conglomerate
and a “human” sitting on stacks of rectangles at a rectangle table slicing rectangle maps to divide all the people
to tear down the trees

all the rectangle people forgot about the soil
the toil
the soul of the land that provides
and instead of a house, filling the boundaries,
we could live a bit smaller and grow a garden
sharing happy round baskets
with big lush tomatoes, apples, zucchini,

or eggs

A baby blanket, using unconventional colours. Bright yellow, light gray, dark teal, Royal blue, army green, hunter orange, dark grey, and a repeat of white for the edging. Still needs to be washed and blocked. I always wash my baby gifts in hypo allergenic detergent before gifting. This blanket is made from acrylic yarn.
