Bummed to hear of the great trumpeter Stanton Davis’s passing on Apr. 18. He was certainly a favorite of mine.I am happy that I was able to interview him twice, once about his upbringing in New Orleans and varied career and the about his best friend, Milt Ward, for @frederiksbergrecords ‘s reissue of Ward’s Virgo Spectrum.A fantastic player and composer, Davis leaves behind some incredible music, including his classic album Brighter Days with Ghetto Mysticism. An acolyte of George Russell, Davis can be found on many of the legendary composer/theorist’s fantastic records. If you see his name in a horn section, check that music out!Make sure you have some “Funky, Fried Tofu” to remember Mr. Davis today. by @whocanbphresh

Bittersweet day. After a hiatus of some 20 years, my Rane TTM-54 was called back into battle as I began to put my record collection to work in late 2023. I had initially purchased it in 2000. The Rane was a true trooper. That is until my last gig when the faders finally gave up the ghost. And guess what? There haven’t been replacement parts in decades.So…. I had to get a replacement double quick.I haven’t shopped gear for ages and of course there are options. Funny enough, no mixer is perfect. Either too little in terms of gadgetry or way two much for this analog guy.After much deliberation, I went with the @allenandheath Xone 24C. It still has probably more features than I need. But who knows….Thanks for your service TTM-54. Welcome to the party Xone 24C. by @whocanbphresh
