It's already been a few days since I experienced the materials and their language at @theregistryofsarees.

I have always approached sarees, handloom and handwoven work with respect, and with a curiosity to know more about the materials, the weave, the hours of work that go into each piece, and so much more.

The exhibition, Perched Upon a Woven Sky, was a breath of fresh air. The way it brings textiles into conversation with light opened up a new world for me, offering new ways of looking at technique, presentation and ideas.

It has left me feeling even more curious, appreciative and connected to our materials.

If you’re in Bangalore, do check out the exhibition, open until 20th August.

Congratulations to the entire team! 🙃

The moment you enter a new space, something shifts. 💫

For certain people, their body language change, at least mine does. A space affects me in a way that very few things can. It feels like I am interacting with it without any effort.

A space can heal you. It can become your friend, your companion. It can reveal parts of yourself. It can hold you, move you, make you feel something, much like the qualities we recognise in people. It is a wonderful thing to simply exist within a space.

These feelings and insights led me to @1218.studios It isn’t every day that you come across a space like this. And then, there is the magic of how everything comes together, each detail finding its place, while still allowing people to find their own comfort within it.

Art has given me the space for nuance and experimentation, and ultimately, to create for the love of beauty, wonder, thoughtfulness and care - through tactility, visuals and meaning.

This workshop was a beautiful way to bring these insights together, and create something novel for people to experience, enjoy and take back with them. 💛

This allowed me to truly practise creating experiences, while gathering more knowledge and ideas to carry forward into what I create next.

I recently got few mogra flowers from a shop, I asked the gentleman on how much do I owe him, he told me that, 'we should not charge women for flowers' 🌸

Women and flowers exist as one.

These images are from the time when I had left my job to pursue meaning in October 2024 and that led me to Bengaluru's Tippasandra flower market.

Maybe the connection I was seeking in my thoughts, in these pictures, it all came together recently. ❤️
I am happy to share these here.

Sing Songs of the Self 🩵

Every person carries something that needs to be expressed - a thought, a memory, a feeling that hasn’t found its shape yet. Not everyone reaches for the same tool to let it out. Some write. Some dance. Some cook, sing, or build. Some, like this room, reach for paper and glue.

We believe self-expression isn’t a luxury reserved for the artistically gifted. It’s a basic human need, as necessary as rest or conversation. What changes from person to person is only the form it takes.

For people on the 25th of July, that form was collage cutting, tearing, layering, trusting instinct over any fixed idea of what the result should look like. But the material was almost beside the point. What mattered was giving people permission to let something out, in whatever shape it wanted to take.

To everyone who sat at that table — thank you. For trusting a process you couldn’t fully predict the outcome of. For being willing to sit beside strangers with a blank page and no structured instructions except to follow what felt right. That kind of openness isn’t small, and we don’t take it for granted.

This is why 1218 Studios keeps returning to different mediums, different formats, different rooms. The need is universal. The language each person uses to answer it never quite repeats.

Thanks to Kanika Agarwal @whosawthat @kanika_agarwalll who facilitated this beautifully

I wonder how memories move through space.

An imagined ethereal tablescape, where memories become spatial texture, and a world of their own.

Before the table was set, it was only this — a moodboard. Scattered colour, fabric, flowers, a shape for a table, waiting to become a room.

Sing Songs of the Self ( an analog collage workshop held on July 25th ) was built entirely around intuition, so it felt right that the space around it was built the same way.

We’ve always believed a space isn’t just where creation happens. It shapes what becomes possible within it. That belief is why we build the way we do.

For this one, there was no fixed plan to follow — only conversations with Kanika, @whosawthat @kanika_agarwalll ideas passed back and forth until they found their shape. One thought led to the next, the same way a fragment leads to the next choice in a collage, until, piece by piece, it became something whole.

More on what that room held — and what’s coming next — soon taken in Bangalore, India by @whosawthat

When work from your drawing book directly finds its way onto the walls.

Work that signifies many moods, emotional states, phases, longing, and the search for comfort and beauty, all at the same time, over the last and this year.

Blue, especially, came through strongly, alongside red.

In blue, I found a hint of joy.

And we found a colour emerging, gradually becoming the theme for this edition of Sing Songs of the Self.

Thank you, @1218.studios, for everything! 🌼

💙

Sarees, what do we remember about them?

Our mothers collection? Her ways of wearing it? The softest materials? Her presence through those sarees? Or as kids imitating to be her while wearing her dupatta as a saree? Or the ones we receieved from our mothers and grandmothers as a token of love and legacy?

There are umpteen number of emotions, anecdotes which carry us, surround us yet are we able to cherish them with a full heart and presence?

As things are becoming more and more digital, it has started to take away our ability to appreciate materials, craftsmanship fully. The world wants us to move so fast that we should have no time to sit with those memories, think about them, revel in it and be able to write the sweetest message back to our mothers and grandmothers.

Presenting, 'A Table of Woven Memories' - a cultural dining experience through sarees, craft and memory.

The saree canopy filled with first memories of wearing, or owning or loving the garment. It holds us with our very own memory of it, appreciation, longing and in between emotions for everything, which we haven't expressed yet.

Hope you like it! 💖

This is one of the works I have elaborated on in my Experience Design transition as I really want sarees to take up new ideas, forms and be presented in novel ways to the audience today.

Thanks to @theregistryofsarees recent launch, that I thought about sarees too much and ended up sharing an idea which I was carrying for months.
