On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free. That day became known as Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.

At Wide Awake, it is a profound honor to help tell the stories of Black Americans whose experiences have shaped our nation’s history. From stories of enslavement and emancipation to courage, resistance, achievement, and community, these narratives deserve to be told with care and authenticity. We are grateful to the Black actors, historians, crew members, and collaborators who make this work possible. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, talent, and perspective with us, and for the trust you have given us over the years.

Today, we reflect on the history Juneteenth represents and the responsibility we share in preserving and telling these stories for future generations. ————————————————————— #juneteenth #juneteenth2026 #juneteenthcelebration #filmmakers #filmproduction by @wideawakefilms

The Wide Awake Films team is just back from two days of filming @washingtoncrossingpark. We are all so grateful for the support of the Washington Crossing Historic Park staff and volunteers, the amazing living history/reenactors who braved the winter weather, and for our production partners who make all this possible. The weekend also brought exactly the kind of weather that we dreamed of - snow, ice, cold.....all the ingredients for some proper historic winter misery! Stay tuned for more as we work with Washington Crossing on this important 250th anniversary production. ——————————————————— #washingtoncrossinghistoricpark #america250 #revolutionarywar #washingtoncrossing #america250pa taken in Washington Crossing Historic Park by @wideawakefilms

On this Veterans’ Day, we commemorate all who have served our nation in every branch of our armed forces. Wide Awake Films is a company dedicated to sharing the history and memory of all our warriors from the American Revolution to today’s conflicts.

For this Veterans’ Day 2025, we would like to share this new film, produced for the American Battlefield Trust, featuring Medal of Honor recipient Edward Byers and his visit to the location where Captain Charles Gould of the 5th Vermont Regiment jumped into the Confederate lines at Petersburg - a brave and life-threatening action that also earned a Medal of Honor. This new film can be found on the American Battlefield Trust YouTube page and in our bio links above.

Today marks the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill. Fought on Breed’s Hill on the Charlestown Peninsula, this 1775 was one of the bloodiest of the entire Revolutionary War. Wide Awake Films produced a full presentation on this battle for the new Call to Arms exhibit at the National Museum of the United States Army. In addition to this large media display, Wide Awake Films also included a Battle of Bunker Hill page within its Northern Theater interactive for the museum.

We so enjoyed having members of @thedebriefproject at our offices in Kansas City. Hearing their powerful stories left us even more impressed with the courage, intelligence, and moral fortitude of our warriors - and especially these guys who fought in some of the most violent and dangerous places in Iraq. Theirs is a story worth telling and knowing. It also didn’t hurt that they brought a Hellfire missile to the office. #IraqWar #usarmy #armyhistory #thesurge #veterans #veteranssupportingveterans taken in Wide Awake Films by @wideawakefilms
