🍎 Create a band weaving tool with me!! 🪱

I am inspired by unique textiles tools - past and present! I recently discovered the concept of a pocket sized rigid heddle loom that could be used for weaving ornate bands in a park or at your kitchen table. I purchased the book Simple Weave by @kerstin.neumuller and was taken by the idea that I could create my own cay-UTE rigid apple heddle 🍎 🪱 🐜 I also looked to @antje_van_margje for pattern ideas.

Some research and a few drawings later I reached out to the delightful design duo @walkers__house to help me with the CAD process. With our aesthetics aligning so well the heddle and shuttle demo came together quickly and I am DELIGHTED.

My goal is to host some workshops and get these little apples out in the wild weaving bands! 🌲 🧺 🍎 🪱

🌷 ‼️ LOCAL COLLAB ALERT 🚨 🐟

I reached out to gear painter extraordinaire @friendlyliver with the idea to collaborate on a pair of handmade @stylearc #sabobwovenpant 👖 and lucky for me this creative queen said yes to painting on some @blackbirdfabrics canvas! I have been an admirer of her colourful paintings with flora and fauna motifs since I discovered her work last year!

These are a little celebration of colour, creativity and the gorgeous salmon running all over our local rivers as we speak.

I also am finally getting a chance to showcase this gorgeous @ozetta #ozettaportsweater #portsweater I finished when the weather was still too toasty to oblige me wearing it. I made a size medium in @wooldreamers Mota 💗 taken in Sḵwxwú7mesh by @wideeyedworkshop

Tulip Charms strung with a a thick sterling silver jump ring for added shineeee ✨ 💐

Each bead is hand sewn by me, one-by-one, using Japanese Miyuki Delica beads. Small charms have over a hundred beads 🙃 taken in Squamish, British Columbia by @wideeyedworkshop

Each participant gets to take home their very own apple heddle and worm shuttle designed by myself and Walker’s House from Vancouver Island. Light snackys provided.
Band weaving creates functional and gorgeous textile bands that can be used as trim, ribbon, lanyards or as a stylish clothesline in your campervan. The best part? This style of weaving is meant to be taken outside! The compact nature of the 3” by 3” apple heddle makes it easy to slip into your backpack and pull out by the camp fire.
During this workshop participants will learn to warp a rigid heddle and set up a simplified backstrap method. What is back strap weaving you ask?? Your body becomes a loom! Clip one end of the warp threads to a picnic table and the other end to your belt loop and your loom is weaving ready. by @wideeyedworkshop

Spent the weekend camping at Birkenhead Lake and took a few quiet moments to warp my apple loom in the wild :) Very excited about how portable this type of weaving is!
