Something new is launching at Widener Law Commonwealth, and it was built entirely by students.

On June 2 at 7 p.m., the first episode of Late Night in the Library premieres, marking the debut of a student-run podcast initiative created by our Entertainment Law Fellows.

The project features two distinct series: Late Night in the Library, focused on candid conversations about life as a law student and conversations with alumni and faculty, and The Final Deposition, which explores legal issues, culture, media, and industry professionals.

Read more about the students behind the microphones and what’s ahead for both shows. Link in bio.

Hip hop artists are so smart, and Dean andré douglas pond cummings wants you to actually listen to what they are saying.

@meekmill raps about trauma and the 13th Amendment. @realcoleworld’s “Neighbors” tackles illegal searches and seizures. The law is already in the music.

Pay attention to the lyricism. There is more in it than you think.

Dean andré douglas pond cummings had options for law school. He chose Howard, Thurgood Marshall’s law school, where Brown v. Board of Education was born.

Walking those halls made one thing clear: your purpose has to be bigger than yourself. Howard taught him that lawyers have a choice, social engineer or parasite on society, and that choice defines everything.

He chose to use the law to move toward justice for everyone.

What does a career in estate planning actually look like?
For Elizabeth Feather ‘02, a shareholder at @caldwell.kearns, it means sitting across the table from clients, answering phone calls, responding to emails, and helping people navigate some of life’s biggest decisions and most important moments.
“It’s a very rewarding practice area because you really do truly help people, and they are very appreciative of your help.”
Her advice for law students and new attorneys is simple: get experience early. Intern. Clerk. Get into the work while you’re still in school.
And once you’re in practice, listen.
Listen to what your clients need. Listen to what matters to them. Then be honest about what you can accomplish for them as their attorney.
Watch Elizabeth’s full Alumni Answers conversation to hear more about her path from Widener Law Commonwealth to estate planning practice.
