Your wig getting older isn’t the only reason it may stop looking as good as it used to.

Sometimes, it’s how you’re caring for it.

Here are 4 habits that can unnecessarily shorten the wearable life of your wig:

1. Constant heat styling 🔥
Straightening or curling your wig every time you wear it can gradually contribute to dryness and damage, especially when you’re repeatedly using high temperatures.

Use heat only when necessary, use an appropriate heat protectant, and avoid automatically reaching for the highest temperature setting.

2. Being too rough when detangling 🪮
Pulling through knots can cause unnecessary shedding and breakage.

Detangle gently, working in sections and starting from the ends before moving upwards. Take extra care around the lace and areas where the hair is individually ventilated.

3. Storing it carelessly
Throwing your wig into a drawer or leaving it tangled up after wearing it can mean more friction, tangling and manipulation the next time you wear it.

Detangle it before storage and keep it somewhere clean and dry where the hair can maintain its shape.

4. Washing it like your natural hair 🚿
Aggressive scrubbing, bunching or twisting the hair can encourage tangling.

Instead, handle the wig gently during washing, keep the hair travelling in roughly the same direction and rinse thoroughly.

A quality wig is an investment — but even good hair still needs good maintenance.
