About a month ago I woke up and couldn’t walk on my bad leg for a day. Change of weather? Over worked it? Problems with the hardware? I don’t know for sure. Sometimes little setbacks like this can be discouraging, but you can’t let that slow you down, because when you stop swimming, you will drown. It is a humbling experience, and another subtle reminder of how fragile we as humans are. As we strive to great things or success it’s easy to let our pride get out of control or lose track of what is actually important, and what actually matters. Our weaknesses can keep us in check, can keep us on the straight and narrow, and make us wiser. But with that, you still need to get up and get out there. Campfire Lake, Crazy Mountains. Beautiful spot! First backpacking trip I’ve been on since last year and it didn’t disappoint. Lots of mountain goats and hungry fish. Some highlights from 2024! It was a long and challenging year, more so than most. A lot of losses, a few setbacks, and for the work not a lot of wins. When I broke my leg back in July I did not think that I would be here. Before general hunting season started I hadn’t even gone for a walk around my block, but this last weekend by the time I got this buck I hiked ~14 miles in decently steep terrain over two days. I am blessed by the healing Christ has provided me, through the surgeons, the physical therapists and the determination to keep training and pushing myself through the pain to keep going. Also thankful for my buddies @on_the_fly_406 and @jordan_fox1234567 for being on call to meet me halfway and help me get the deer out. The Madison Range. Some photos from a few weeks ago that I forgot to share. My last backpacking trip for a while. I camped at Bear Basin, then Mirror Lake, made it to the beautiful Diamond lake for my last night and ended day four with a broken leg and sweet helicopter ride. Definitely an unforgettable adventure.

I hope one of these days to be able to fill a bear tag in the spring but it won’t be this year. I’ve spent a lot of time in the mountains over the last two months and although I didn’t fill my tag I had some amazing wildlife encounters while I was out. Bull down. I always knew my first bull was going to be young and shot in a spot where no one would love to pack it out, but I had the shot and I took it. I packed out the first two loads of meat and that 6 miles gets harder with each trip. I couldn’t have completed this pack-out without good friends coming to back me up! Praise God I was able to get all the meat even with all the grizzlies in the area. First time exploring the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. Did 60 miles in 8 day’s climbing a total of 10,000ft, cutting through thick brush, climbing over seemingly endless deadfall and crossing over multiple mountain passes all the while trying to keep up with my buddy Micah, this was definitely the hardest trip that I have done to date and I would not recommend this route to most people.
