New babies! Begonia Maculata...with beautiful silver polka dots and a rich scarlet underside. Urban legend has it that these plants inspired Christian Louboutin for his signature red soles. They’re just so pretty in the evening sun... by @wildatlanticgarden
The weekend approaches like a warm breeze in a balmy, sunlit, orchid room! There has been a recent spate of tree cutting and plant-razing along the Corrib and it made me sad, expecting signs of spring everywhere and arriving to trees shorn down to the base, and thriving riverside ecosystems razed to the ground. Perhaps I will share before and after pics in our stories if I can bear it!....So... I came home and planted some new rooted cuttings of rosemary, sage and mint. It helped a little 🧡🌿We do really need to educate the people who are making decisions about our public spaces. But getting your hands dirty is good therapy! Wishing you all a lovely Wednesday x by @wildatlanticgarden
This little guy was one of the many repotted over the weekend, and the one that attracted the most attention of passers by as I got my fingernails dirty by the waterside. He's like a beautiful wee, deceptively spiky wee cloud. This cactus's "official" name is Mammillaria Bocasana, translating from New Latin to "breast" (sorry Instagram)+ "air" + the name of the Botanist who first decided to name it. The little beauty is native to Mexico, where it is a protected/endangered species in the wild. His common names are 'the powder puff plant" or more commonly... Fred! I mean, Fred?! 🤔😂Cactus care is definitely a very new art to the Wild Atlantic Garden, but I do so hope that it flowers over the summer, as I'd dearly love to try and grow one from seed! Happy Monday! 🧡 🌵 by @wildatlanticgarden
We did a lot of repotting today (see our stories) but there was a blissful moment in early morning of gorgeous sunshine, and it seemed a perfect moment to showcase some beautiful flowers from @yes_flowers in our gorgeous gardening totes from @rt1home against the backdrop of the Corrib Estuary and the Wild Atlantic, with a young Sycamore that was heavy with buds despite the confusing start to this Spring. Hope that you all had a beautiful Saturday! by @wildatlanticgarden
Haworthiopsis 💚🌵 by @wildatlanticgarden
This little guy appeared on the kitchen floor the other day. He was so luminously green that I assumed he was a piece of dropped veg, and tried to pick him up. So terrified poor wee thing! When I carried him out on an old postcard he raised his head as if to marvel at the seascape when he felt the fresh air. (And yes the postcard is a skeleton waiting at a Bus Eireann bus stop 😹) ...A lovely little wandering friend, I like to think of him having marvelous seaside adventures! 🐛🧡🍃 by @wildatlanticgarden
Peace Lily, Spring sunshine by @wildatlanticgarden
It's lovely to be surprised by some poetry at the start of an academic text, even moreso in an academic text comparing Chinese and Indian Economies in the 1980s that you discover by accident for €2 in Charlie Byrnes, Galway. This little snippet from Kālidasa, one of my favourite early Indian poets (4th/5th century CE) for some reason really struck a chord with me when I happened across it, and led to lots of lovely musings and daydreams. My wee String of Hearts just had to get into the shot for metaphoric effect :) Today was so beautiful here, in lots of ways! Hope you're all having a wonderful Tuesday! 🧡 🌱 by @wildatlanticgarden
It’s been a wild and stormy few weeks, but the air is feeling distinctly Spring like, and it feels (finally!) that it’s time to really start growing again! 🧡🌱 Thinking of creating your own green urban oasis? You know where to find us! x by @wildatlanticgarden
Terrarium Tuesday. There’s something very pleasing about these clean lines while the seas rage outside with Storm Gareth :) Now...what to plant?🌿🌵 Hope you’re all safe and cozy in this tempest! by @wildatlanticgarden
