What if this collection could help me bring the whole process home?

I am so excited to share with you. Sunlit Shallows Collection is officially here. What started with a colour I couldn't stop thinking about became paintings of water, sunlight and movement.

I've been so inspired by artists like @isobelashwin_art who share the journey of creating and selling their collections, that I've taken a leaf out of her book for this collection, Sunlit Shallows is now my printer fund collection.

My hope is that sales from this collection will help me work towards buying a professional printer for my studio. Because one day I'd love to be able to
print your artwork here → sign it → number it → carefully wrap it → and post it to you with a handwritten letter. There's something really special about doing it all myself and building relationships and connections.

But for now, your Sunlit Shallows print will be professionally printed, and each artwork is limited to 40 editions. So why dont you bring a little piece of the ocean into your home, and you'd also be helping me build the next chapter of Wild Design, so thank you for supporting me

Whales, and stingrays have always held a special place in my heart. Living in New Zealand, surrounded by the ocean and its extraordinary wildlife, it's hard not to be inspired by these incredible travellers and the journeys they make.

Whale Migration is my hand-painted tribute to these ocean wanderers. Deep ocean blues, warm pops of colour and little botanical details come together in a design inspired by the wonder of whales and the sea they call home.

I create designs from the little moments, places and creatures that make me stop, look a little closer, and feel connected to the natural world. This is one of those stories that I have turned into a pattern.

I'm excited to enter this design in the Golden Coil Limited Edition Design Contest. It would be rather lovely to see my whales find a home on a planner!

Sea Story #2 Saltwater Treasure
Some treasures don't need a jewellery box just a little spot on the beach, or perhaps a place on your wall.

39 Little Sea Stories. My second Sea Story painting, Saltwater Treasure, is now finished, and it's just like finding a beautiful shell on the beach.

30 Sea Stories is a collection of little (6x6 in) original gouache paintings. I'm taking my time doing each one so not one a day, just 30 little stories to paint.

And yes these originals will be available to buy, and my Tidal Notes subscribers can reserve or buy their favourites before they're released publicly.

And so it begins…

Meet the first little sea story!

One little canvas, one very curly octopus, and the beginning of my 30 Sea Stories project.

I'm painting 30 little original gouache paintings inspired by the sea — some familiar favourites, some new ideas, and hopefully a few surprises along the way.

Number one is finished, and number two is already underway. I'm not setting myself a daily deadline. I'd rather take the time to make each little painting something special than rush through them just to reach 30.

Each painting will be an original, signed piece, and they'll be available to buy as the collection takes shape.

Well this isn't quite how I pictured it.

This is supposed to be seaweed, and I suppose it is but....

It's just doesn't look like the seaweed in my head. The colours are wrong. The shapes aren't quite right. It just isn't working. And what is most annoying is I can't quite work out what needs fixing.

Do I add more colour? Change the shapes? Make it lighter? Paint over bits? Start again? Or do I just need to come back tomorrow?

This is the less glamorous side of painting. Sometimes things just flow and you think, ooh, yes, this is working.
And sometimes you sit there looking at your painting thinking, Hmm. Nope. That's not right. So I'm going to leave this one for a bit and think about what it needs.

Have you ever made something that was nearly there, but you couldn't work out why it wasn't quite working? I'm hoping a bit of distance will help me figure this one out. And if all else fails there's always more paint!

What if you could capture that feeling of having nowhere else to be?

This is Ocean Pause. A sun hat. A paddleboard. Warm water. And one very good reason not to check the time.

I painted this one for that delicious holiday feeling when you've finally stopped rushing and can just… float.
