If you hadn't already heard, you can now get your hands on our new releases for August!

⏰ 'Sleeping in the Land' by the award-winning @jasmine_seymour_gudyung tells the story of the Dharug language. How it was widely used in the region we now know as Sydney, how it slept when colonisers came to the area, and how it is being woken up by Dharug communities learning their ancestral language together. Part history book, part personal journey, part language learning resource, this picture book is another strand in the broader effort to revitalise the Dharug language and return it to its land and people. Bayala Dharug!

👶🏾 'Possum Skin Cloak' by award-winning duo @suelawsonauthor and Aunty @faystewartmuir takes the reader into the ancient First Nations tradition of wrapping a newborn baby in a possum skin. As the baby grows, the possum skin is added to. It connects them with their family, their Ancestors, their land and their story. Accompanied by the gloriously detailed work of Indigenous Australian fine artist Leanne Jones, this gentle story will wrap you in the warmth of belonging.

Meet the illustrators of 'One Koala, One Hundred Trees', the winner of the 2026 Environment Award for Children's literature in the picture fiction category! 🐨🙌

On reading the book, judge Kristin Darell (@krisddarell) said “Absolutely gorgeous and relatable for all kids who care about animals and nature. It informs without judgement, but also reminds us that every person has the power to bring about change and the chance of a better future.”

32 years on, the Karajia and Environment Awards for Children's Literature are still celebrating books that grow a love of nature in young readers. We couldn't be happier to add this story to the list of winners.

A big cuddly congratulations to Leesa Allinson, and illustrators Heather Potter and Mark Jackson, whose book 'One Koala, One Hundred Trees' has won the 2026 Environment Award for Children's Literature in the picture fiction category! 🐨

In this inspiring story, a young girl and her family find an injured koala on their property, and she rallies her whole community to protect local koalas and their habitat.

Judge Linden Ashcroft (@lindenashcroft) said, “When I read this book to my children, they immediately wanted me to read it again. The book tells a relatable and engaging story with clear actions young people can take to protect animals and nature more generally."

For 32 years, the Wilderness Society has championed children's books that foster a love of nature through the Karajia and Environment Awards for Children's Literature, and we're thrilled to add this story to the list of winners.

Find all the winning books at eacl.org.au or via the link in our bio. There you can buy them via our partner Harry Hartog and 10% of sales go straight to the Wilderness Society to help protect nature.
