Wild Garlic or Ramsom is an abundant spring plant that is easy to obtain. It has been traditionally used for medicinal purposes. Research has shown that exposure to green spaces is beneficial for mental and physical health. I collected this wild garlic whilst running along my local river. As a food source, ramsoms are full of phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals all beneficial to overall health. in terms of boosting performance, maintaining a healthy balanced diet ensuring all modifiable lifestyle factors are catered for is the best way of maintaining training time, boosting recovery and ensuring an excellent well varied baseline diet is met. There is limited research on whether wild garlic directly impacts on performance, but its medicinal qualities are well evidenced.
As with all wild food foraging, ensure you know what you are doing, wild garlic is pungent and easily identifiable, yet if you are unsure seek professional advice.

Zinc, an essential mineral for health. It has been shown to play a role in enhancing immune function and in cellular metabolism. Most athletes miss training due to the onset of sickness, so increasing zinc intake at the first signs of cold and flu symptoms will boost immune function-avoiding the loss of essential training hours. As always, look for supplements that have the informed for sport logo on them(slide 3). This is a supplement I have been using and find works for me.
