Nostalgia/Word Vomit Sessions 3/20/26 Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. It’s fascinating how fast something— a song, a smell, an image— can dredge up a memory and transport you. I’m no longer 18 years old. That girl? She was entering a new stage of life with a lot of firsts. First tattoos, first love, first kiss, first time, first heartbreak— all conveniently wrapped up in a single person. (I don’t have the heart to tell her it won’t be the last) He was everything to her, but he didn’t reciprocate and that was what crushed her. His rejection solidified everything she’d ever heard at home, fed into her insecurities, demolished any sense of self. Despite that, they remained friends for many years. Her silent suffering, a constant dull ache in her chest— not jealousy, but yearning. But she wouldn’t say a word because she was just happy to have him in her life for however long they had. Eventually he disappeared, a ghost without goodbye, No closure for the loss. ~ A decade later, I still don’t fault the boy. He was trying to figure himself out and we weren’t compatible in any way romantically. I know now that it’s okay. I can look back at that time in my life with fondness, sharp edges dulled to smooth stones over time, a sweet tenderness at thoughts of him, of the us that was, a soft sigh and small smile at our youth. While I can’t promise her that things are okay now, I can promise that they do get better— even if healing feels invisible. We can listen to that song now and it won’t feel like torture. 🪻 I didn’t write with the intention of it becoming a book review, but Mouthful of Forevers by Clementine Von Radics was discovered and read during those nostalgia years initially. Reading it back in April, I swear I travelled back a decade to face a version of me who only exists in smoky whispers and forgotten words. But she deserves love just like the writer of this book, even if she has take the road less travelled. #bookreview #poetry #nostalgia #thewordvomitsessions by @wildesghost
Absurdist literature has become a genre I am quite fond of now and I have The Metamorphosis to thank for that. What initially garnered my interest towards this novella was a class I took with a professor who introduced us to a few forms of absurdist literature and naturally we also briefly discussed Kafka and his work. I was so fascinated by the story that I made a point to keep an eye out in bookstores for the isolated story. Lo and behold, my first trip to Denver proved fruitful and I found this marvelous copy😍 The story follows Gregor Samsa, a salesman returned home from a business trip who wakes up one morning to realize he has become an insect. There is no explanation as to how this happens, it just does🤷🏻‍♀️ naturally, Gregor’s family and everyone around them lose their wits and do everything in their power to avoid him and the strange reality they are now forced to live in. The story is actually quite sad as we get a full account of the alienation Gregor feels from the thoughts formed in his still human brain. His father picks up a job in his old age just to avoid being home, his mother can’t be around him without fainting, and his sister is the only one in the family who cares enough to attempt to take care of him even though her attitude is disdainful of him at best. The tragic elements are combated with plenty of oddly humorous moments even though the books ends incredibly pitifully for Gregor albeit quite fortuitously for his family. 🪲 Fun fact: the darker parts of the cover are actually coffee stains. I somehow managed to miss the note from the bookshop, but even after realizing, I’m quite keen on how the stains appear intentional and actually compliment the original cover design. I also tend to prefer my books with that “lived in” look☕️ #bookreview #themetamorphosis #franzkafka #classicliterature #absurdistliterature Framed beetle courtesy of my friend Natalie🪲 by @wildesghost

If you were a ghost stuck in purgatory, who would you haunt first?👻 The story of Velveteen by Daniel Marks follows our aptly named protagonist as she navigates her way through a perpetually crumbling, ashen purgatory and her murderer’s home in the living realm by traversing through the cracks. In between messing with him, she and her team are assigned missions to help other souls pass into purgatory and the latest one happens to be insanely cute which proves a challenge for Velveteen to avoid. Follow our heroine as she unravels the mysteries of what’s causing purgatory to crumble, one platform-booted step at a time🖤 #bookreview #ya #platformboots #ash #purgatory by @wildesghost
It’s official; Becky Cloonan and Tula Lotay own my heart now🖤 my last review hinted at this book and I absolutely devoured it in a single sitting📕 Somna is the story of Ingrid who lives in a small village. Her life is relatively monotonous—keeping house and caring for her husband; however, she has a secret. Every night, she dreams of a dark presence that gives her the most lustful pleasure and eventually, the line between sleep and wakefulness blurs. As this happens, “witches” are being hunted by her husband, a murder is being investigated, and Ingrid gets caught in the middle of it all. This leads to her husband finding her mid dream, her once friend Maja trying to kill her after murdering the only other witness, and—after an unfair trial—being burned at the stake for witchcraft as the devil claims her soul🔥 Y’all, I reiterate that these creators now own my heart because goddamn, I genuinely could not put this book down! The art styles between Becky and Tula are so different—Becky’s outlines help solidify and convey a range of emotions while Tula’s softer imagery really hones in on the dreams, especially when they bleed into reality—but they flow so beautifully together and the story is just magical but heart wrenching. Seriously, if you haven’t read this, do it! As for the imagery, I couldn’t have done it without the help of my friends. Ja’Quevis was nice enough to let me borrow his arm—both for the concept and the final product—and Nereida is truly the best photographer and videographer🖤🖤 cheers to more crazy projects, you two! #bookreview #graphicnovel #somna #comics by @wildesghost
Behold the spookiest collection of stories by a variety of very talented writers and artists! Originally, I had to pick this up because I am a hoe for HamletMachine 🖤 (precisely why I got their cover version) and I loved their story with the Songbird and Musician characters (I need a full story about them!), but I also ended up loving the other stories featured just as much (I immediately picked up Somna by Becky Cloonan and Tula Lotay after reading her short story and y’all! I died💀 The review for that will be up next!) Each story is centered around a spooky theme/mythology and with all the different art styles, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! I’d be thrilled if there was another collection like this in the future👀❤️ #bookreview #spooky #horror Also, I just want to note that I used Rusty Cage’s version of The Hearse Song for this because of all the ones I’ve heard, it’s my favorite ⚰️ also, if I didn’t tag someone, please let me know so I can! by @wildesghost
🌸”I was here.” -T. F.🌸 How has it been ten years since this book first came out???😭 where has the time gone?🥺 All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven is one of THE best books depicting mental illness I’ve ever read, hands down. The story is about a boy named Finch who helps out a girl named Violet away the edge of the clock tower. From there, a budding friendship forms through lines from Virginia Woolf’s “The Waves” and a class project all about wandering Indiana. As Violet slowly begins to heal, Finch continues to dissipate. Eventually, not even love can save him from the edge and he departs into The Blue Hole for good, but he leaves traces of himself for Violet to find, reminders that she’s not alone💙 This book breaks my heart without fail every time I read it💔 and yet, I feel a small part of me heal through the words of Finch and Violet. A few years ago, I decided to immortalize a few tender moments from the book and finally help myself heal from my past rock bottom choices. The catharsis of seeing something so beautiful and meaningful over a part of my body I’ve despised for a long time is unmatched🌸🐦 I genuinely cannot recommend this book enough. Jennifer has my entire heart and she has made me feel so lovely over the past decade💕 also, a massive shoutout to Gianna for the loveliest knit cardigan! #allthebrightplaces #finchandviolet #mentalhealth #nationalsuicidepreventionmonth #bookreview by @wildesghost
👻Past Self/Word Vomit Sessions💀 6/28/25 I am not the same girl I was at 22. She experienced a death in the family that would affect her for years to come, especially since she rarely allowed herself to sit down with her grief. She still identified as a girl and didn’t feel nearly as uncomfortable in her skin as I do now. She fell in love again. This was her greatest undoing. She fell for someone without having healed from the first rejection. But she persevered and found solace in his company, his attention, his body. Like Icarus, she felt weightless from love. But like Icarus, she was blinded. She knew he had his troubles (she did too), but she hoped they could help each other heal and grow. All she wanted was for him to stay and try. Try to make “them” work. But reality is not a fairytale. There was no happy ending. He disappeared like a thief in the night. The problem with that is that he didn’t leave cleanly. Whispers of his presence could be found everywhere. Songs she listened to, places they had visited together, moments they had shared singed into her mind like a brand. Like an addict, she craved, yearned, ached for him. — I ache for this poor girl. She didn’t deserve to be hurt, so irrevocably destroyed by the object of her affections. Though at 27, I am an entirely different person, sometimes I find myself wanting to don her old skin. There are parts of her I couldn’t shed. Beyond the surface level, her sorrow is buried deep within my bones. There are times her memories resurface and it feels like I’m having an emotional affair with a ghost. Rarely, I sit with her and grieve with her, for her. I allow her pain to consume me. But sometimes it can be difficult to resurface. But I will never give up on her because she deserves to feel whole again. #thewordvomitsessions by @wildesghost
7/18/25 I don’t often post about cool events I attend (laziness at its finest), but when Jinxx from Black Veil Brides posts about a free screening for a horror film he was a part of, you only ask a few questions: When? Where? And finally (directed to your best friend) are you coming with? 💀👻 It was a great time and I enjoyed gently picking Joss’ brain about the film anthology he directed and produced as well as chatting with Jinxx about haunted sites and his lovely mother about her grandson. All in all, it was a great night spent with fellow spooky lovers and most importantly, my bestie🖤 #filmscreening #horrormovie by @wildesghost
Behinds the scenes! I had an idea for a book review photo that I needed a hand/arm model for (because apparently mannequin arms are IMPOSSIBLE to source in LA😑) and luckily, my friend Ja’Quevis was a very willing volunteer! We had so much fun with our creature feature transformation and after this, I now have extra body paint and wilder ideas for the future (maybe a proper werewolf transformation in honor of teen wolf?👀) thank you to my wonderful bestie/photographer extraordinaire Nereida for the videos and the eventual final shots🖤 #behindscenes #creaturefeature #transformation by @wildesghost
bittersweet old fashioned irish coffee whiskey scotch neat black coffee splash of cream no drink is more bittersweet than the loss of you no pill is harder to swallow than your choice not to fight for us for what we had still i crave the reality I once had like an addict an alcoholic i scorn the ghosts of memories haunting me relentlessly offering no solace to the emptiness the hole in my chest i yearn to be whole again but desperation can’t heal a heart afraid of its own shadow adrift i drift directionless ~1/29/25-1/30/25 🌊 My mind’s been struggling this year, but the catharsis of writing has helped. #nationalpoetrymonth by @wildesghost
