We're reminiscing on our first ever production this week, FRIEND-IVERSARY. It's been a pleasure to bring it to all of you at this year's 'Wilde Stages' Dublin's Queer Theatre Festival.
Written by Úna Florent and Directed by Seán Brady, our two Artistic Directors, we hope you enjoyed this memorable story and we can bring it to a theatre near you soon.

Last year I worked on @natalie.meisner’s production of Boom Baby, in a partnership with Sage Theatre. It was my second show; and where I fell in love with theatre, and realized that it was a possible career path for me. Fast forward to a year later, and I was invited to assist with Natalie’s latest project SubHuman, as part of a travelling group for @wildestages in Dublin!

SubHuman explores the difficulties LGBTQ Canadians faced in the military’s purge of queer folk from the RCMP (1950-1990s). This was an incredibly moving and dynamic show, and I’m extremely grateful to have been a part of it! I was trusted with stage management, and handling the tech.

My prior tech experience was limited to mainly shadowing, but I was ready to take on the challenge. The theatre had amazing house techs who offered to help me out during our shows, but I opted to do it solo. Natalie ended up telling me that this was a surprise to her, as she expected me to be shadowing, not running it myself — we had some specifications about how we wanted to do certain cues; so I explained “if there was going to be a mistake, I’d rather it be my own fault instead of hearing about it later and wishing I had been there” (it’s not that I didn’t trust the house techs, they were great! It was more in the sense of the show felt like my baby). It was also partially because I had shadowed technicians a few times, and I wanted a chance to learn and try it myself!

I got to work with an older Strand Lighting board. In prior experiences I mainly observed work with automatic programming; so this was another delightful challenge! One night when I came in I found a cue missing from my programmed set, and couldn’t remember the steps I used to lock cues in when programming. Luckily I noticed before the show had began, so I improvised and figured out how to do it manually. I joked to the team later on that it made me feel like a DJ. On top of that, I also was tasked with the Pre-Show chat!

Thank you so much to the team for trusting me, it was an honour to learn from and meet so many talented people! I’m proud to announce that the show was recognized as an outstanding production, and won 2 awards! taken in Theatre at 36 by @wildestages

Going on every CV as "acted in and directed an award-nominated ensemble." Two for the price of one.

Thanks to the festival and my co-conspirators for a wonderful week and making all of this possible. taken in The Pearse Centre by @wildestages

And thats a wrap on Wilde Stages 2026! Twenty seven shows, eight countries, five continents! Here are the nominations and winners given out on the final night of the festival ( the shows Blindr and Sombrero were not eligible as they were written/directed by the Artistic Director). Thanks to all the wonderful artists who shared their work and to the audiences who came to see them. Big shout out to all the volunteers without whom the festival would not be possible! We will be taking a breath now before thinking about Wilde Stages 2027! Watch out for details on how to submit a show for consideration. taken in Dublin, Ireland by @wildestages

WE WON AN OSCAR!! (Wilde Stages Artistic Director’s Award)

it was such an honour to not only be able to bring KINDER over to Dublin to debut at the Queer Theatre Festival, but to also have it honoured as Artistic Director’s choice from a program of so many wonderful works

a huge THANK YOU to: the festival and its incredible team who helped with everything, from programming our tech to our nightly bump outs - we’re so very very grateful (@alice._.fransson and @pl0tv4 you are superstars!!);

to the amazing touring team - director/production manager/tech supervisor extraordinaire @tiahbullock, and stage manager/operator/artist liaison/roadie/cutie @alcammish;

to our fabulous creative team back home of @jack_burmeister and @tom.vulcan, whose sounds and lights carried this work over to;

our fantastically brilliant team at @chloenelkinconsulting for supporting us through the first leg of our 2026 tour;

and to all the generous audiences who have come to see KINDER so far, and for helping spread the word about our little show! queer art and the artists behind it need your support and patronage now more than ever, so we are so grateful and appreciative of each and every person who has given just an hour of their time to join us each night

PRAGUE and EDINBURGH - you’re up next so SEE YOU SOON mwah 💋
