Five years ago, I started creating a kingfisher nesting bank and improving the surrounding habitat, hoping one day it would become a successful breeding site.
For years, nothing happened. But this year, all the patience and hard work finally paid off.
The very first nest successfully fledged six young kingfishers. An unforgettable moment to witness.
And the best news? The pair has already started a second brood.
Here is a selection of my favorite moments and photographs from this incredible journey so far. Seeing these birds thrive in a place I carefully prepared over the years is something I’ll never forget.

THE RUT IS BEGINNING… 🦌

The rut is beginning, and the magnificent, ancient calls of the red deer are once again echoing through the forests.

Here’s a series of images from last year’s incredible spectacle.
Hopefully, it won’t be long before I can share new moments, new encounters and new images from this breathtaking chapter of nature.

Back from a short vacation for the male rut 🦌with a group of fantastic photographers. Now to select photos. And there are quite a few. This one really stood out. Hence its placement. A STAG ON THE MOVE 🦌

🦌The rut is ON! 🦌🔥🔥

Yesterday was an absolutely fantastic first day of the deer rutting season. It couldn’t have been any better: the light was magical, adrenaline was pumping across the heath, and I even managed to capture multiple spectacular battles!
The ice has been broken, the muscle soreness isn’t too bad yet... onto day 2! 📸✨

🪶 A jay in beautiful light

📸 Canon R3 RF400mm 2.8 taken in Nederlands by @wildlife_pg

$A moment full of action! A kingfisher with a beautiful catch in its beak. That split second when everything comes together: the look, the catch and the incredible colours of this remarkable bird. #kingfisher #canon #bird #bestbirdsofinstagram #insta taken in Hoeksche Waard by @wildlife_pg$

Even a gem needs to shine. ✨
