If you like maps and stats, follow me on @strava , if you prefer these cheesey reels, stay tuned for more posts! If you prefer real life, come join me for a run! *This weekend I'll be running a half marathon in Nike's @nikerunning "After Dark Tour"! Let's do this!!! Yewwwwwwww *Wooopsy. Voice over cut out at the end. That last shout-out goes to Sam Wise for the inspiration I received while I watching him absolutely DESTROY the UTMB in France. by @wildly.marli
Shot of the race - @cocodona250 - LIVE! 250 miles, 10,000+ metres of elevation. We are 41hrs 43 minutes into the race, and @rachel__entrekin continues to remain in pole position. She's just passed the 200 mile mark, with @kiliankorth a mere 2 miles behind her - it's looking like this year's Cocodona will be an epic battle to the end. Both athletes are on track to complete the race in a little over 50hrs, faster than the course record. In sadder news, a runner has tragically passed away after they experienced a medical emergency on the track. Thoughts to the family and crew of this runner <3 <3 <3 πŸ—πŸ¦‰πŸ„πŸŒ±πŸ‰ by @wildly.marli
Having a bit of fun with Claude whilst injured...visualising amazing athletes based on @strava stats 🌏!! This visual shows 4 x athletes' all-time elevation gains*. Each line on this chart marks how high above sea level one athlete's cumulative elevation gain would reach - if you stacked every metre they've ever climbed, straight up into the sky. πŸ” The numbers aren't distances run, they're total metres of vertical gain - every hill, every mountain, every climb - added together and placed against Earth's atmosphere to show just how far that effort would actually take you off the ground! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ The entire troposphere = where all weather happens and where we breathe - is only the thin sliver at the very bottom (0–12 km). 🌦 The stratosphere (12–50 km where the ozone layer lives) is also a thin band. The KΓ‘rmΓ‘n line at 100 km = the internationally recognised boundary of outer space. πŸš€ The second visualisation is how far Lucy Bartholomew's total elevation gain is at in relation to Earth and the Moon, not quite there, but on her way :p πŸŒ› *For anyone who doesn't know...Jim doesn't post much on Strava, so take his stats with a grain of salt. by @wildly.marli
Still on a high from the weekend. Couldn't have asked for a better debut trail running race. I've learnt so much from this race and can't wait to build upon this event at the UTA 100!πŸ€ΈπŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈπŸ…πŸŒΏπŸ’¨ by @wildly.marli
What an epic weekend in Tasi racing in the 46km Alpine Marathon at @kunanyimountainrun with @sam_______wise and @ummsamjones . I was genuinely surprised I finished and couldn't believe I placed 5th in the women's, and 20th overall. A recent ankle injury had me completely cutting back my weekly milage to 5km runs and cross training in the month leading up to Kunanyi. I had very low hopes of even running this weekend ... The day prior, I set a goal to simply get to the first aid station atop Mt Wellington, and see how I felt. Kunanyi was my first ultra trail race and the furtherest distance I've ever run. I really didn't know what to expect from the technical trails, and 2,300m+ elevation. With a recent iron deficiency diagnosis, I wasn't all that confident I'd run a strong race. My body felt like it was working harder than usual. From the very first ascent I felt gassed - my legs and arms felt like dead weights from the get go. By the 18km mark, I was in so much pain - the negative gremlins began to show their faces. Every step hurt, my knees were on fire, and my mind was telling me to stop. In a bid to snap myself out of the negative spiral, I grabbed my fuel, and began force-feeding more carbs into myself, all the while chanting "...this is not as painful as your period...this is NOT as painful as your period." Somehow I pushed through that dark phase of my race. I love how competition in the field helps us all push our limits, and go one step further. All the other runners around me gave me the fire to continue. It was a team effort, in my eyes. And what a place to put our minds and bodies to the test - the bush, the birds, the wildlife, the runners, friends (both old and new), the volunteers and event organisers - all were nothing short of amazing. UTA 100k, here we come!!!! by @wildly.marli
Day 2 of running non-stop around Mont Blanc - to be smiling and still lifting your legs at this point in the UTMB-miler race, is beyond inspiring. Go Sam! #utmb by @wildly.marli
Ultra Tour du Mont Blanc (UTMB) is the crΓ¨me de la crΓ¨me of trail running events the world over. In 2024, while living in Spain, Reuben and I journeyed to Chamonix, France to support our friend @sam_______wise as he took on the mythical 100-mile UTMB race for the first time. The 100-mile race is an iconic 176 km loop with roughly 10,000 metres of positive elevation gain. To put that into perspective, the summit of Mt Everest sits at 8,849 m. Runners start on Friday at 6pm in Charmonix, run through the night and into Italy, hours later they cross the border into Switzerland, and finish back in Charmonix. The maximum allowed time to complete the course is 46 hours and 30 minutes. UTMB has made legends out of the likes of Courtney Dauwalter, Kilian Jornet, Jim Walmsley, Katie Schide, Tom Evans and Ruth Croft, and basically anyone brave (and insane) enough to take on the challenge β€” like my friend Sam. The course record for men and women is held by Jim Walmsley (19h 47m in 2023), and Katie Schide (22h 09m in 2024). It’s quite funny that my first real taste of competitive trail running came from a somewhat chance visit to the most important trail running event in the world. I had no idea how much it would capture my imagination and competitive spirit. Watching people run around mountains, over gullies, and up grassy and rocky terrain reminds me a lot of my childhood where I spent most of my free time running across my farm, chasing cattle and racing up the rolling hills with my dogs - free and on the run for hours on end - nothing felt better. Seeing such a supportive and joyful mountain community among the heavenly mountains of Mont Blanc is enough to make anyone want to lace up their trail running shoes and get out there! #utmb by @wildly.marli
Happy 100th birthday to the GOAT - you have inspired me beyond measure πŸ‹πŸŒ±πŸŒ On the topic of natural history filmmaking...a series I worked on with (the other GOAT) Peter Nearhos ACS for National Geographic and Disney, called "A Real Bug's Life" was nominated for 8 Emmy awards, including Outstanding Cinematography!!! @davidattenborough @disneyplusau @natgeo by @wildly.marli
πŸ” In a couple of weeks I'll be heading to Tasmania to run the Alpine Marathon at @kunanyimountainrun with @sam_______wise and @ummsamjones . I'm so excited to freeze my butt off on the trails above Hobart - nothing sounds more enjoyable than ascending 2300m across 46km of pure nature trails! πŸ“Έ by @reubengibbes.tv by @wildly.marli

For my first (and only) high-school State championship cross-country race, I borrowed a pair of my friend's brothers' track & field shoes. Being two sizes too big, I tied the laces around the sole of the shoe to keep them from slipping. The day before the race, Mum drove me from far north NSW to Parramatta. I'd no running-specific coaching or training, and no plan or professional guidance as to how to pace myself. Mum simply advised me, "Run, and don't stop!" When I arrived, I saw elite junior runners warming up, many with coaches and part of training squads. I was so nervous. I sat on the toilet until the very last minute. I've always wondered "what" those nerves are. I mean, what am I afraid of? Only since I began training for the TCS Sydney Marathon have I realised exactly what I'm scared of... I'm scared of myself. More specifically, I'm scared of what I will put myself through (both mentally & physically) when I permit myself to go for something 110%. I was so nervous before yesterday's Half Marathon race because I knew that I was mentally working up to the moment where I would release all my mental brakes & permit myself to go as hard as I could. And I knew that was going to hurt a lot. We live in a society where being proud of our achievements, no matter how big or small, is boastful. I'm no psychologist, but I'd guess that without opportunities to celebrate our personal wins, we make it extremely hard for ourselves to put in the effort, sacrifice short-term pleasures & grant ourselves the opportunity to get out there, & give it our all. So, today, I'm celebrating my big & small 2025 running achievements thus far & the achievements of all the inspiring people I've had the honour to run with. Now, and for the next 140-odd days, it's time to dig deep & (hopefully) inspire more people to get outside, set some goals, & grant yourselves the opportunity to achieve them! *Not everyone has the same opportunities in life. For some, accessing veterinary care for their best friends and companions is an unaffordable ask. If you'd like to help me celebrate & support Pets of the Homeless, donate via the link in my bio!
