spent some time in the largest pine savannah in the state and figured i’d make a video out of it :) by @wildmansam727

Lichen species from the Genus Cladonia can be found on every continent! From Greenland to Puerto Rico. They’re a super fun one to identify as they all look very similar but with slight but noticeable features.

It’s a symbiotic relationship between a Fungi and a photosynthetic partner, like a cyanobacteria or algae. I know that’s a lot of words but it just means the fungus provides the body while the partner provides photosynthesis. Both benefit from this process.

Mt Tammany, Red Dot Trail

It’s a 5 mile loop with rock scrambles, scenic overlooks, a waterfall and swimming hole and more! With accessible parking, trail markers and porta potties.

It was a beautiful day and we even saw a Timber Rattlesnake! almost stepped on it by accident too..

Beach Erosion from the incoming Nor’Easter in Ocean City is wild!

These storms are natural but very damaging to the shorelines especially when people spend 19 million dollars on beach replenishment! But I’m glad they did otherwise our dunes would be taking a big hit.

I plan on making a video with the aftermath so stay tuned!

Water Oak is super common in the Southeast but I rarely see it in New Jersey. It lives up to its name and thrives in wetlands growing to 50’-80’ tall, usually short lived. Oaks are host plants for 200+ species of butterflies and moths and acorns provide for squirrels, turkey, chipmunk, deer, ect.

Pollinators come in all different shapes and sizes but this plant highlights a rather unrealised pollinator! It blooms in the summer so it won’t be flowering for migration but provides constant nectar throughout the summer. A living hummingbird feeder that doesn’t need to be cleaned!
