Making a sample pack for @tree__nature’s latest creation, the “Cellimba.” 🌿

It’s a strange little handmade instrument built from tone rods salvaged from doorbells, Kalimba parts, and the wire frame of a floor fan. Lots of unexpected sounds hiding in this thing.

I’ve been recording it up close, but also exploring the deeper vibrations with a Geofon mic from @lom.audio to capture some of the sounds you don’t necessarily hear with your ears.

The samples will be available as 24-bit / 48kHz WAV one-shots, along with a playable Ableton Sampler instrument for Live 11.0 and higher.

Still exploring what it can do. More sounds and details coming soon. 🎛️🌱

A little sneak peek of the rehearsal for my Cherokee-language opera works premiering this fall, created with my Cherokee sis, soprano Lara Lignitz and my dear quartet friends, Kiersten Moser, Paulo Eskitch, Ethan Landis and Shelby Landis. Grateful for this meaningful, joyful work together at Wild Mountain Studios with Mark Kuykendall.

Wonderful foray into the Recording Academy community at events hosted by @kittwakeley and @se7enwake in celebration of his new album. Great connecting and looking forward to amplifying Native music in the Academy’s Indigenous Peoples Network and pushing the needle of representation!

Night one of Circle Cinema Film Festival down! Honoring Jeremy Charles, newest Cherokee on the Walk of Fame! Jeremy directed the wonderful film we scored, The Return of the Sacred Red Rock, which has won Circle Cinema Film Festival Best Feature Length Documentary! It will screen in multiple theaters Friday - get your tickets!

I couldn’t be more proud of Jeremy Charles, a great artist who I have known and respected over the span of two decades, a person whose stories of Cherokee people through his films and his actions taught me so much about modern Cherokee identity. Jeremy, you have achieved much - and you are just getting started!

Had a great time doing these weekend marathon sessions with @moriah_bailey_ band before they leave on tour later this July. The record is coming along nicely with the addition of some more string parts and trumpet. Be sure to check out their upcoming Tulsa show at @drifterstheater on August 14th to promote the new album 💿 taken in Osage County by @wildmountainstudios
