While I've been working on finishing out my studio interior, I haven't been painting. But I am still collecting good pigment rocks when I see them, because once I do get back to the brushes I'm going to need more paints!

That greenish-gray rock in the second photo is the only earth pigment source I've found for anything close to green. I don't think I'll ever find anything for blue. But the rest of the gamut is there just waiting to be processed. For blue and a clean yellow I supplement with outsourced powder pigments. But my overall palette remains earthy, and that's the way it'll probably always be.

Right now in the studio we're hanging plastic to cover the ceiling and wall insulation. The staple gun broke yesterday, so off to get a new stapler today. And a load of firewood while we're out. Floors begin next week. Wall finishing will wait a while, but in the meantime I'll be able to use the studio, at least. For walls we're milling our logs from last winter's deadfall, mostly sycamore. It's a beautiful wood and I'll put walls up as we get the boards milled and routed with tongue & groove. So, not finished yet but making progress!

I used the sweet potato vines for a temporary repair on my willow retaining wall. I'll cut some more willow this winter for a longer fix. A dead tree fell and broke it a while back. The vines were surprisingly strong, not one broke. I had to dig the potatoes early bc a critter found them and starting eating them 😐 But we've been taking one every week anyway for a few weeks now and they're sweet after a week of curing. The amazing thing is how nice the soil in that bed is now! I'll use it for planting garlic next month. The potatoes were in a different location, not the willow wall bed. It was rocky clay and I just put the slips on top and covered with potting mix then layer with straw. I pulled off the straw and found the nice new wonderful soil beneath. I'll plant even more potatoes in another useless spot next spring and see if it happens again 😀 by @wildozark

I brought this beauty back to my color stash. Cannot wait to see the paint, but that too has to wait until I'm finished enough with my studio. Insulation done ✔️ Now to get it covered temporarily and floors down, then I'm ready. Permanent wall and ceiling (home milled planks from the logs from last winter's tree fall) will go in later, but I will use it for art in the meantime ❤️ #wildozark @wildozark_art by @wildozark

Another nice fossil reveal on the driveway this morning after the wonderful rain. When the rain washes the dirt away it messes up the driveway, but I sure do like collecting the interesting things I find. It's the lemonade from the lemons sort of thing 😂 by @wildozark

I did a spur of the moment thing I may regret later, y'all 😂 If you listen to podcasts, look for my new launch over at Apple Podcasts (and other feeds as I get to them). Right now it's set for bi-weekly (every other week) but if it becomes too hard to keep up with it might go to monthly. It was fun, though! So I might even go weekly one day. by @wildozark

The evening light on the mountain is always ethereal at this time of year. It almost looks like the start of autumn, but it's just trees so dry the leaves are beginning to yellow. by @wildozark
