A day in Bamfield, according to dogs 🐾
Sea caves at Pachena Bay, shoreline runs that turned into full-speed sprints, a ride across the water taxi, and exploring the wild edges of West Bamfield and Brady’s Beach where the sea stacks rise out of the ocean.
It was the kind of day where everything smells like saltwater and cedar, paws are always wet, and nobody really wants to turn back.
Just dogs doing what they do best. Exploring everything.
If your dog had a day like this, what part would they be most excited for?

The before: excited and confident
The after: exhausted, dirty, and questioning every life choice 😂

Would we do it again? Absolutely.

I got Kiara in July 2023. It’s kind of crazy to think that it’s only been three years since one decision could change the direction of my entire life.

I thought I was getting a dog and a hiking partner. I had no idea how much that one decision would set into motion.

That’s what I love about the butterfly effect. We make small decisions every day without knowing where they’ll lead, and sometimes one of them ends up shaping so much more of our lives than we ever could have imagined.

And the craziest part is that we still have so many years and so many adventures ahead of us. I can’t wait to see where life takes us next.

Got our sneak peeks back from our engagement session and I genuinely don’t think I was prepared for how much I was going to love them.

We made sure to get some family photos during our session too, and I think this might actually be one of my favourites from the whole day so far. Just the three of us on our little sailboat, which honestly feels pretty fitting for us.

A whole lot of love, a little adventure, and my favourite people to do life with.

Putting on the microspikes because the trail was getting a little too snowy for regular shoes 😂

Panorama Ridge was a tough one, but I’d do it all over again for those views.

Yesterday’s vibes 🥾🤎

There’s something pretty special about getting outside with a group of people who are all there for the same reason — fresh air, good company, dogs, babies, cameras & a few kilometres on the trail 🙌🏻

Spent the morning exploring Stoney Hill Regional Park with @shehikesvi and safe to say, Piper was very happy to be included 🐕🌲

Are you coming on the next one? 👇🏻

I don’t really know how to explain why saying goodbye to a backpack has been this emotional for me. I cried way more over giving this bag away than I ever expected to.

A few people might wonder why I decided to switch carriers. I’m pretty petite, and as my little one has gotten heavier, the Sapling just wasn’t fitting my body as well anymore. With the carrier itself being almost 8 lbs and everything else I need to carry, I was getting up around 55–60 lbs total. I needed something lighter that fit me better and would be more comfortable for both of us as we keep hiking.

I’m so glad it’s going to a friend who lives five minutes down the road, so I can still go visit it whenever I want. Knowing it’s going to be part of another baby’s adventures makes it a little easier to let go.

I also have so many photos and videos from our adventures with the Thule sapling that I’ve never shared, so this definitely isn’t the last you’ll see of this bag around here. I still have plenty of memories to share.

Here’s to filling the Poco LT with just as many adventures.

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of finding places like this.

Tucked away up north on Vancouver Island is this 50-foot waterfall, and the coolest part is that you can actually walk right behind it.

There’s something so surreal about standing underneath a waterfall and watching the water pour over the edge in front of you. It’s one thing to see a waterfall from a viewpoint, but being able to walk behind it and experience it from a completely different perspective makes it feel like something out of a movie.

I’ve explored so much of Vancouver Island, and somehow there are still places that completely surprise me. You can spend years exploring the same island and still find another trail, another little road, or another hidden spot that makes you stop and think, “How have I never been here before?”

I’m keeping the exact location of this one a secret for a reason. There was litter and human waste throughout the area when we visited, and honestly, it was really disappointing to see such a beautiful place being treated that way. I’d rather not contribute to more people finding it until visitors can learn to leave places like this the way they found them.

If you know where this is, you know.

There’s still so much of this island left to explore, and I hope we can keep the wild places wild.

Teaching my little adventurer early that adventure isn’t always big summit days, sometimes it’s waterfalls, forest trails, sandy beaches, and slowing down to take it all in and finding the magic in nature.

POV: you thought backpacking was going to be a peaceful escape into nature…

…and then you remembered you have to actually hike the mountain with all your stuff 😂🏔️

The views from Panorama Ridge made it all worth it

I never wanted having a baby to mean giving up our adventures.

I honestly wasn’t sure what hiking and exploring would look like with a baby, but we’ve figured out how to make it work. There are definitely moments of fussiness and times when I’m convinced he is never going to fall asleep, but eventually he gets cozy in his hiking carrier and drifts off.

And sometimes nap time looks like this. A waterfall, the forest, and my little adventure buddy getting the best nap of his life.

I’m so grateful we’ve been able to keep exploring Vancouver Island and Coastal BC together. I never expected to be able to keep doing all the things I loved before having a baby, and it makes me so happy that he gets to come along for the adventure too.

Nap time just looks a little different around here.

Almost sunset season again, and I’m already looking forward to more evenings like these.

A little two day escape up to northern Vancouver Island with my husband and our little one. We spent the weekend exploring, enjoying the beach, and soaking up all those warm sunset hues.

There’s something so nice about getting away for a couple days, being outside, and having nowhere to be. Just us, the ocean, nature, and our little one along for the adventure.

Definitely missing these evenings and already looking forward to more of them.
