“Marlin Fly Project” - An official selection of the 2024 Fly Fishing Film Tour

The project, which took place in Southwestern Baja, Mexico, stands as the ultimate culmination of community and conservation. Led by Costa, and with the help of the San Carlos community, it brought together Costa Pros, leading billfish scientists, conservation organizations, community partners, and local captains in pursuit of catching and satellite tagging Striped marlin on the fly.

Made a film from my NORRA 1000 Rally Race adventure. Joined dad @topesyvados and team to do some navigating and logistics.

Spent less time in the car and did more logistical team work then I would have liked, but had a time filming and the story yielded a fun film!

Maybe some rally navigator schooling in my future.😬

Last month we ordered Wiley to abandon his adult responsibilities for a week and head down south of the border for a last minute strike mission. He landed in Panama City and joined the crew on a 57 Spencer aptly named “The Patriot”. They spent the next three days fishing their way down to Tropic Star lodge, located on the edge of the Darien Gap. Over the course of the 250 mile trip, they released 16 Sailfish, 1 Blue, and stacked some nice Mahi in the box. August weather in Panama can be mean and unpredictable, so if you want to fish hard and put up numbers, fair weather sailors need not apply. Wiley and the crew awoke on day one to 40 knot winds, if “The Patriot” hadn’t been equipped with a pair of SeaKeepers as well as the SeaKeeper Ride trim tab system, things would have gotten very uncivilized very quickly. It is amazing how much technology has changed the whole offshore experience over the last ten years or so. It’s one thing to make far runs and fish hard in bad weather safely, it’s another thing to also do it in comfort. Hard to believe @thefotobus.co has been rolling 10 years in business!

Last night, we had a proper celebration of turning this silly passion for old buses into a decade worth of memories. Grateful is an understatement and I’m just going to leave this video by my incredibly talented BAE @wileytwatson right here to do the rest of the talking.

The waiting game. If this 70 lb fish would have come in 1 foot closer it would have been lights out. Hunting big fish with a small gun makes you a better hunter. Not pulling the trigger until you have the perfect shot makes you a great hunter.
