Today would have been my father’s 82nd birthday.

We never celebrated him since his passing 20+ years ago. Not that we didn’t love him, but I think he left us way too soon just when we started to be a family, that it hurt us to even acknowledge his absence. However for some reason, I got inspired yesterday. I called my mom and asked her what he liked to drink, favorite foods, pastry etc. We were going to celebrate him the following day. I contemplated as I was getting this done why would I do this now? I guess I allowed myself to be vulnerable about this, I’ve lost too many people these past 10 years, and I just wanted to do something nice for once, it was long overdue.

Happy Birthday Dad, we miss you 🎂🕊️ by @wilf_713

Charlie Parker w/ Strings - Laura
Self Titled OG 1955 & 2019 RSD release

I’ll never forget listening to this album the first time, as a Teenager in the music program. The marriage between strings and Jazz holds a special place in my heart, I remember thinking “this is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever listened to” I think I teared up in some songs, and in my heart I wanted to perform an arrangement like this at least once while I was in School (I played saxophone and was attending the music academy program at Hills). I told my teacher Mr. Koch and Orchestra teacher Mr. Lee about my request, my excited self even bought the arrangement online before I went up to them (coffee stains on the manuscript were Koch’s during the rehearsals lol), they asked how are you going to get the arrangement, and I told them I bought it and have it in my hand, they were all smiles and chuckled. Mr. Lee recommended me some of his students, and I asked Koch if he can play the piano for the performance. The day of the performance comes and I remember hugging everyone before we performed, I sat in the stair case and cried before we headed out to the auditorium cause I couldn’t believe it was happening. The performance went well, and I’m glad a friend of mine captured footage of that performance.

My teacher Mr. Koch, is no longer with us. He leaves behind legacy to not only to his family but to colleagues, and thousands of students, I’m grateful I was one of them. I will miss you dearly, and when the time comes, I hope to see you again. by @wilf_713

While closing up at my job yesterday, I stop by a desk and see a white dove arrive at a street light in front of the window, looking at me for a good minute. I smiled cause I was thinking “who came to see me?” (My mother would say loved ones dear to us will manifest in different ways to visit us when they’re gone.) It wasn’t until hours later after that encounter I was told that you are no longer here with us.
I’m devastated, I can’t imagine how everyone must be feeling, thank you for everything Mr. Koch. I never got a proper picture with you, but I do have the video of you performing piano with me when we played Laura my junior year of high school for the concert. You’ve impacted my life more than I could have imagined, I’ll miss you dearly. by @wilf_713

Back in ‘15, we saw each other after years, you hugged me and I felt this sharp ache in my heart. When it was time for me to come back and we said our goodbyes, both of us got very emotional. We were going to see each other once again and obviously keep in touch, so why was this happening? This event has been etched to my subconscious, and l realized years later what it was, or rather my interpretation of it. I wrote this and more in a letter that was read to you in your final days. You were able to part with this and the gift I gave you the last time we saw each other, it gave me a sense of closure that this is how everything turned out in the end.

I love you Tia Zaida, you gave so much love and was loved by so many people and I’m grateful that I was one of them. I’ll miss the daily messages you sent me everyday, your constant gifts and thoughtfulness. I will always have you in my heart ❤️ by @wilf_713

been off the grid for some time, came back 4 reasons and decided to share a glimpse of my first time seeing @quellechrist at Elsewhere not too long ago, his “Being you is great, I wish I could be you more often” album is a body of work that resonates with me deeply. Everything (from the title, artwork, subject matter) has hit close to home since I first came across this album a few years ago. Had the pleasure to meet him and have a brief chat, he has this aura that made him feel so welcoming, so full of love and appreciation to fans that I never felt with any other artist I’ve come across so far. Quelle thank you for your music, and inviting people to a space where we can appreciate your art. I’m so glad I met you, wish you safe travels over the rest of your tour 🫂 by @wilf_713

“Still got 25 more to reach the Mid-Life but I’ve been in a Crisis”

Pardon my nihilism, it’s one of the few ways I can find humor with what’s happening in the world nowadays. I appreciate all the wishes from family, friends everywhere, much love to all

Here’s to 25 🥳 by @wilf_713
