Two eagles, side by side.One steady and composed… the other restless, itching to take off and hunt. Red shouldered hawks are incredible hunters with some of the sharpest eyesight and hearing around. They spend a lot of time perched high in the trees, quietly scanning and listening before making a quick strike on small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and even tiny insects.This one had just landed deep in some thick brush and was carefully peering through the branches below, watching and listening for its next meal. Moments like this are a great reminder that sometimes the best wildlife encounters happen when you slow down and simply observe.#wildlifephotography #hawks #birdsofprey by @will.mierisch

The rain has a way of washing the stress away and making the world feel a little slower. There is something about the soft sound of water falling that gives us time to think about the moments that matter, and even the ones that don't.I think the rain brings out feelings we don't always notice on a bright, sunny day. It gives life to the world around us while somehow awakening something within us too. A part of ourselves we may have been too busy to notice.That's what makes the rain so interesting. Mr Hawkie 🌿I didn't get to share all the shots of this guy. He was protecting this area and calling which makes me think there was possibly a nest, but it was a bit too far up to see. Luckily I had my 500mm and 800mm so my shots are close. I just love the fine details on the Red Shouldered Hawk. So pretty and vibrant. #birdsofprey #hawk #FloridaNature by @will.mierisch

Mr Hawkie looking back at me ✨️Red Shouldered Hawks are some of the most common Hawks around my area, but I've really grown to love this bird. They really have a distinct look to them and they have a very loud call when warning others that it's his territory. The Blue Jay actually mimics this call to scare birds away as well, but if you listen close, you can actually tell the difference. #hawk #birdsofprey #wildlifephotography by @will.mierisch

Quiet moments on the water 🐢Gliding slowly by kayak lets me get close without frightening the wildlife around me. This turtle was resting in the sun on a fallen tree, the light catching its shell against the dark water.I’ve been listening to @aaronalviramusic piano and improv lately and couldn’t help but share this audio. Watching these egret chicks roughhouse reminded me so much of growing up with my own brother.I can’t really tell if they’re male or female, but I like to imagine they’re brothers the way they push each other around like that 😂There’s something funny and nostalgic about seeing that kind of sibling energy out in the wild.#egrets #wildlifephotography #brothers by @will.mierisch

Breeding male anhingas are definitely one of a kind. It's not everyday you can see this bird look this beautiful.Their dark feathers shine with silver streaks, and their eyes are such a wild detail. A deep red eye with that bright blue skin around it is such an interesting combination. I love how vibrant they look this time of year. I definitely get excited to photograph them when they look this amazing up close.#breeding #wildlifephotography #nature by @will.mierisch
