Onto the next chapter 🥋 🇰🇷

I’ve officially finished my time in Busan with Dongnae Office Professional team. I’m so grateful for all of those who made this happen. To my director @tkd_hun thank you for trusting me & giving me this opportunity. To my Director @hyungoonoh thank you for the trust and support you had in me to lead the exercise sessions and guide our team. To my beautiful students, thank you for all of your hard work. It made my job easy, working with such gifted athletes who respected me and also knew how to have fun at the same time. I’ll cherish our memories together forever. I tried my best and hope I inspired you all to be better in Taekwondo and in life. I’m so glad to finish my work with Busan Taekwondo on a high-note, with our team 5v5 girls winning gold at the most recent Korean Professional Team Championships.

I’ll now spend a few days to relax in Busan before I pack up and head back to Australia to pursue my end goal of helping Australian athletes to become the best in the world. 🌍 taken in Busan 釜山, South Korea by @willafonczenko

Officially retired 🥋

All good things must come to an end. I’ve decided to step away from my Taekwondo athlete life at 24. What a wild ride.

Although I didn’t reach my childhood goal of being an Olympian, this sport has changed my life in so many ways. I’ve travelled the world, represented my country, met my best friend & partner, as well as life-long friends in the process. It’s a shame to not reach the heights i wanted to, I always felt my physical attributes weren’t in sync with my mind & fight IQ. However, my goal in the future is to learn from my mistakes and experiences and share them with the next generation in a coaching role.

A massive thank you to my biggest supporters along the way. Dad, @meztal , @safftamby @anthony_rizakis @vincentpapandrea @tkd_hun @ryancarneli I love you all and appreciate everything you’ve done to help me. To my past and present coaches & support team at @vicinstsport I’m so grateful for your help & guidance. To my brother @tomavocado & @combatinsaus teammates & @notoriousma_ family. thank you for the great memories. Lastly, to my first sponsor and strength coach @yakka7 from @unified_fitness_systems I learned so much from you & am so lucky to have had the opportunity to start my career under your care.

PS: Had to delay this post for a couple weeks because @koreanzombiemma stole my limelight. taken in Seoul, Korea by @willafonczenko

Successful weekend in Gold Coast ☀️🥋

Doing my absolute best to improve for the next generation of Australian Athletes. I know my methods aren’t traditional and sometimes (most), I am crazy and extremely strict towards my athletes, but it’s only because I care so much about them. At such a high level competition it was amazing to see all of my athletes shine in their own ways.

My long time athlete Rose showed where she belongs dominating TPE to win only 1 of 3 Senior medals from Australia outside of the National program. My boy Matty B also demonstrated his dominance on his path towards LA 2028. Others just fell short against World Championship medalists and Olympians. I believe we are doing the right things and our time will come. I’m extremely grateful to my mentor Seokhun for never holding back and always teaching and guiding me. I’m still just learning but in the future I will do great things to follow in his footsteps.

After returning home from Korea, at times I’ve felt very isolated in the sport and at most times felt many are against me & wanting to see me fail. Whether it’s jealousy or insecurity, I invite it all. I will take on any challenge. Let’s get better for the rest of 2026 ❤️

Much love,
Will Afon

Meet Your Head Coach – Will Afonczenko
I’m Will, and I live and breathe Taekwondo. My journey started at just 5 years old, following in the footsteps of my dad and brother. From then on, I’ve dedicated my life to Taekwondo.

I’ve represented Australia on the world stage, trained under World-renowned coaches SeokHun Lee and Ryan Carneli, and even became the first foreign coach ever for a Professional Taekwondo team in South Korea working with Junior World Champions and some of Korea’s top ranked senior athletes.

Fast forward to 2025, my athletes earned 3 spots on the Senior Australian Team, and I proudly represented Australia as Head Coach at the World Universiade Games in Germany.

At Heart Taekwondo, I’m here to share the love for the sport and build the next generation of Taekwondo stars.

My goal is to help every student reach their full potential while loving the journey.
