POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

During Winter, while out walking in the late afternoon, I came upon two girls playing in the gutter. The smaller girl was friendly, immediate and ebullient; we had a chat and she told me they were building faery houses and that it was ‘very hard work’. I saw no sign of the houses but offered a word of encouragement and went on my way.
A couple of days later while out walking I turned into their street just before dusk. There was no-one in sight but I spotted these splendid dwellings.
When Melanie Safka toured Australia in the mid 1970s she stayed at the Melbourne Hilton overlooking the Fitzroy Gardens. There she discovered the Faery Tree; a big old tree around the base of which Ola Cohn had carved and painted many faery folk. Nearby is the miniature Tudor village with its hedges, bridges and tiny little houses. One can’t help but feel that the faeries make good use of that village.
For a time Melanie considered coming to live in Melbourne because, as she put it; ‘Any town that considers it important to set aside a place for the faeries must be very special.’
Well said.
