Big Mena! Not the little one.

What an honor it has been to build a life and career that I can be proud of and do ALL the things I said I would do. I’m nowhere near where I want to be but I’m so proud of how far I’ve come. Growing professionally and personally has been a journey filled with many challenges and triumphs. I conducted a once in a lifetime interview this weekend that I cannot wait to share with ya’ll.

I’m still in awe of the Liberian Diaspora Conference that took place in Washington, D.C. recently.

It was such an honor to be in rooms with Liberians making an impact across the diaspora and at home. I had the opportunity to learn about new initiatives taking shape across sectors including education, health, and economic development, directly from the people leading the work. Each presentation was a reminder of just how much is happening and how much is possible when Liberians come together with purpose.

Most importantly, I’m honored to lend my face, voice, production, and editing expertise to the launch of a new initiative from the Office of Diaspora Affairs: iLiberia, the official virtual platform connecting Liberians in the diaspora with Liberia’s government offices and services. (more on this later)

Being part of this work is deeply meaningful to me. As a Liberian in the diaspora, I believe there is so much potential in creating stronger, more direct connections between Liberians abroad and the country we continue to call home.

Thank you to everyone who helped plan and bring this conference to life. In just its second year, the conference and its attendees have moved from Dialogue to Delivery, as its theme captured.

Keep working. Keep building. Keep moving the needle on what we know Liberia can be.

What experience in your life are you simply happy you got to have?

I’ve interviewed my fair share of celebrities, but few have intrigued me as much as Tisha Campbell.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to interview her about her new book, “The A Word,” which chronicles her journey raising her autistic son at a time when autism was deeply stigmatized and far less understood.

During our conversation, I got to know Tisha not as the actor, singer or comedian I’ve watched on a screen for years, but as a fierce mother determined to create a beautiful life for her son, one where he isn’t simply tolerated, but truly accepted.

There was something incredibly heartwarming about seeing someone I’ve known through a screen for so long be so human, so open and so authentic about one of the most personal parts of her life.

Some experiences matter because of what they accomplish. Others stay with you simply because you’re grateful you got to have them.

This was one of those for me.
