Congratulations to Anabel and Lydia Van Cott who won the conference doubles title on Wednesday, October 14! Entering the division tournament as the No. 2 seed, they advanced to the finals to face the No. 1 seeded team from Sachem. They played a great strategy match to win the upset victory in two sets. The first set was competitive with the Van Cott sisters taking it 6-4. Then, they rallied from being down 4-1 in the second set to send it to a 6-6 tiebreaker, which they won 7-5 for a 7-6 set victory.

Additionally, a total of eight William Floyd doubles players advance to the county tournament, the most doubles players of any team in Suffolk County, according to head coach Dave Pia. The student-athletes who advanced are Lydia Van Cott, Anabel Van Cott, Gianna Martin, Rylie Wiegand, Emma Drees, Tatiana Sanchez, Madison Hodgson and Ava Asendorf. All of these student-athletes have achieved All-Division honors with a chance to earn All-County!

Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) recently visited William Floyd High School’s Medical Assisting program and the new Mental Health Professions program, part of the district’s award-winning Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings. Students from both programs had the opportunity to speak with FDU officials, including the director of admissions, dean of nursing, and deputy dean of psychology, about career paths and opportunities available at the university.

Following the visit, FDU interviewed more than 70 students, offering them instant admission to the university’s health-related programs, including nursing, psychology and biology. Students are also looking forward to an upcoming visit to FDU’s campus in Florham Park, NJ, where they will tour the university’s health facilities, dormitories and other campus facilities!
