Holiday

The project originated from a desire to create a story based around love and travel, a clean slate and simple at its core, but like all my work still with craft and consideration. Quieter than some of my previous work both in mood and tonality.

The simplicity of the story meant I created my own structure and backstories of my central characters, a young couple deeply in love visiting a city for the first time. Thinking about where they would stay, how they would feel and what they would experience of the city during this time.

Everything I do has to be elevated otherwise it's just another photograph. Quieter than some of my previous work both in mood and tonality.

Remy, France 2026

Nothing like casting @remylopess, looking for locations and then on speaking to him finding that you want to shoot him in one of his favourite swimming spots near his home town. And yes the shoot did finish with a deep in the sea.

‘A fo ben, bid bont’
A Welsh proverb which translates to: He who would be a leader, let him be a bridge.

Continuing my weekend of looking at some of my older projects, this was started a few years back, where I looked at communities in the UK that had bridges and roads built over them, especially motorways in the UK. None in the UK seem as important to document as the road over Port Talbot, the ‘road on top of a town’. Where the elevated motorway runs right over the town.

It’s build necessitated the destruction of countless homes, a school and a whole village was demolished to make way for the M4 Motorway.

Rather than seeing these roads as something negative and destructive at the time, when communities welcomed them. When it opened in the 1960’s a local newspaper at the time called it a miracle that would become ‘one of the the sites of Wales… A symbol of progress and a modern marvel. by @williamgreen

The Night Cars of America

Continuing the weekend of archival work

This series was originally started with one image over 10 years ago, on a visit to the States for a friends Birthday I took the long way back to my hotel when I discovered this solitary Honda in Detroit (pic 3)

When I was back the US a couple of years later I decided to continue it. With the parameters that the car had to be found on its own with no others around, shot at night with just available light whilst hopefully giving us some insight into the wider North America it’s existing in. I see it as one of those projects that will hopefully continue forever.

The Series is currently into double figures, I need to get back there and search for more. by @williamgreen

The Sleeping Taxi Drivers of Tokyo

In Japanese culture sleeping at work is a sign of dedication, they even have a word for it, ‘inemuri’ or ‘sleeping whilst present.’

This was one of those series that came as a complete surprise. Wondering along a downtown side street late one afternoon I came along 30 taxi drivers all asleep. I was amazed by this private state on such public display. Equally I loved how prepared many of the drivers were with a towel or handkerchief at the ready to keep out the daylight.

Fairground at Summer Ends 2/2

With this project I wanted to capture something of the fun and nostalgia around fairs. Thery’re something I think many of can identify with, when I was growing up they always seemed to visit my town at the end the Summer, a magnet for families, siblings, lovers and groups of friends. In my memory it was always sunny.

Fairground at Summer Ends

With this project I wanted to capture something of the fun and nostalgia around fairs. Thery’re something I think many of us can identify with, when I was growing up they always seemed to visit my town at the end the Summer, a magnet for families, siblings, lovers and groups of friends. In my memory it was always sunny.

Shooting at fairs I found out was a little tricky, after getting kicked out of some photographing people. So I approached a fairs directly and found one that was happy with me carrying a camera round and approaching people with a camera.

Initially street casting couples and friends and then shooting both them and other people I met at the fair. by @williamgreen
