SEEDFALL (Oct 4 – 11, 2026)
@asylumstudiosuk

Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say

Just like children sleepin’
We could dream this night away

But there’s a full moon risin’
Let’s go dancin’ in the light

We know where the music’s playin’
Let’s go out and feel the night

Because I’m still in love with you
I wanna see you dance again
Because I’m still in love with you
On this harvest moon

Neil Young, Harvest Moon (1992)

Celebrated from sunset to sunset – 31st October to 1st November – the Gaelic legend of Samhain (known to most as Halloween) is a festival marked by the rise and fall of the Seed Fall Moon. Ushering in the colours of autumn, Celtic belief sees this as the dividing force between the seasonal light of summer and darkness of winter – honouring it as a time to settle the literal crops and metaphorical feelings harvested over the past year.

Reaping the fallen leaves left behind, we sow the “seeds” of fruitful beginnings to come and start the calendar anew. Established under pre-existing themes of nature and environment, Seedfall reiterates similar conversations surrounding growth and transience.

One year on from The Art Station / Young Artists in Suffolk Residency @the_artstation @youngartistsinsuffolk, Seedfall follows Felicity Beaumont, Willem Keys, River Orrey and Eleanor Rodwell’s creative directions since. Revisiting the creative movements made from this cycle of time; the exhibition commemorates work made during and after the residency’s unique setting of Saxmundham’s Riverside Garden at The Old Bank.

Punctuating longstanding conversations within their practices, the show’s title draws from the folklore of spiritual and physical cleansing, with opportunity to explore the widespread challenges emphasised in their observations and outcomes. Seedfall (re)connects its artists through the lands they’ve co-habited respectively over the last 365 days – from afar and in close proximity.

ELLIE AND THE THREE WILLIES
(Sep 26, 2026)

Ponies in the paddock! Delighted to capture this impromptu belt making workshop between William Wallace @therealwallacecollection, Ellie Rodwell @erodwellart and Willem Keys @willem_keys (with dags Tally and Charlie in tow [6, 15] ).

Witnessing William at work, he carries this self-assuredness at all times. Sat listening to him talk about his way of life, the enthusiasm behind his stories, witnessing his generosity to pass on his craft to others – in live demonstration, his knowledge is palpable, and something I’ll never tire from experiencing in-close proximity.

Firmly pleased, with belts in hand, It’s great seeing Ellie and Willem have their turn at bodging, skiving and threading their own leathers – I made mine with William a month or so back. Good fortune I brought my camera along for what I assumed was a simple natter among friends. If you’re ever need of expert advice or fancy checking out more of William’s wares and other brilliant designs, he’s always at a DMs reach.

If you also happen to be in the vicinity of Saxmundham tomorrow, come join Willem and Ellie at The Art Station’s @the_artstation ‘Garden Sharing Project’ (2-5pm) in The Old Bank to hear about theirs and 4 other artists responses to the garden they’ve been occupying over the last few week(end)s. by @williamgsharp

STUMP
(Aug 28 – 30, 2026) @plank_suffolk2022

You’re slipped an invite to a secret location about two weeks back. It contains 7 names, 3 dates, 3 times, and a cryptic sounding rendezvous point. You place it in your back pocket and bank it for later till the time comes.

The day comes and the route of your Google Maps takes you down a bridle way before making a winding U turn. Signs then start to feel obvious, quite literally 2.5 miles down the road to be exact, where an ominously placed arrow points you to your destination.

Following the ups and downs of its many backroads, the magical mystery tour continues, full of the pot holes, fields and suspicious smells marking Saaafolk’s harvested landscape. After fifteen minutes, two of which were unexpected, you arrive at this secret sanctuary: A big shed in Iken (PLANK, 2022); a Baptist church belonging to St John in Wantisden (RUBBLE, 2025); or, this time, a hall at the street end of Boyton (STUMP, 2026).

All these hideaways leave clues. You feel like you are in on something. But is there a reason they weren’t known to you in the first place?

Visiting today and subsequently flicking through the story books of Skeen&Morter&Hecktermann&Downing (&co), my journey to STUMP reflects the very nature of its artists and their choice to exhibit when and where they do: To preserve something fruitful yet forgotten. To reconnect the past to the present. To suspect the unsuspecting, even when it was under your nose this whole time. More than ever, Locationlocationlocation is as important as the work itself.

Thank you STUMPers and Andrew McDonald @alhambramgt for innovating these sites over the years through the interconnectedness of art and locality.

LOCAL YOKEL ARTIST TALKS
(Aug 22, 29, 2026) @the_artstation

That’s a wrap folks! Local Yokel comes to an end after a stellar series of back-to-back artist talks at The Old Bank and Lobby of The Art Station: Diving into realms of folklore, regenerative upcycling, organised hoarding, traditional craft, speculative fabulation and mealworm terrariums (to name a few); Uncovering what makes the rural, local, and everyday unique in its presence and meaning.

A big thanks to the artists supporting these talks: Annabel Dover @annabel_dover, Sue Jannoch @s.jannoch, Cab Kenningale @cabkenningale, Willem Keys @willem_keys, Kate MccGwire @kate_mccgwire, j.b.e. (Jools) mclean @jbemclean, Ellie Rodwell @erodwellart and William Wallace @therealwallacecollection, for their generosity and time in sharing a piece of their practice with me and those who attended.

Thank you Clare @palmierworks for the invite to facilitate these conversations and to be involved in the project’s Art & Learning Programme! A big pleasure, as ever, to see the Suffolk arts scene booming and expanding the way it is.

BE AWARE OF INVISIBILITY
(Aug 2 – Sep 5, 2026) @headshaveholeshaveheads

Esoteric perfectly summarises David Cooper’s @headshaveholeshaveheads most recent curation. Defined as something only few are allowed to know of, able to understand, or gain insight from, BE AWARE OF INVISIBILITY tells us not to ask why through words, but from a sense of curiosity alone, adding another layer to the many folds of Cooper’s sleepless cycles @galleryhole.

When words fail, our senses are all we have left. So, if we have limited access to, or are withheld certain information for personal consumption, what do we rely on to construct an image of what we are stood in-front of..? GUTUG: That gut punch feeling, as would Cooper describe, is the answer.

Without being overly didactic about it, trying to make sense of artistic practice (especially when we encounter art in the flesh) is something exceptionally unique, guttural, and almost unholy as to how or why we’re subconsciously attracted to it in the first place.

From studio to situation - or what occurs from a timeline of gathered materials, references, and creative labours - “finished” works arrive from moments almost impossible to recall in their entirety. Whether these memories are genuinely forgotten, or intentionally obscured from public knowledge, this skewiness arguably protects the energy and process behind an artwork’s making and meaning. Speculation therefore remains key, and is treasured as the appropriate instinct needed to access the show’s creative and social capital.

In the spirit of #GUTUG, let the sensation sit and rise to the surface. Reflect on it, and repeat the cycle again. It may never carry a fixed answer, but that (un)familiar, (un)certain, and raw impulse holds more than enough weight.

A standing ovation to David for his determination and generosity in spotlighting 43 artworks by 33 local, regional, and internationally acclaimed artists - all of whom are credited in the comments.

Make sure to keep an eye out for the upcoming PORTAL zine, soon to drop online as part of the gallery’s most recent edition of self-published ephemera.

LOCAL YOKEL
(Jun 13 – Aug 29, 2026) @the_artstation

“Often we are comforted by thought that a place is ours, that we belong to it, or perhaps even come from it, and therefore are tied to it in some fundamental way. Such places (‘right’ places) are thought to reaffirm our sense of self, reflecting back on us an unearthing picture of a grounded identity. This kind of continuous relationship between a place and a person is what is deemed lost, and needed, in contemporary society.” - Miwon Kwon

Embodied by the jargon filled expression of the ‘yokel’ (one James Cahill @jamesmcahill defines as a “dismissive term for the [uncultured] artless rustic”), Local Yokel responds to contrasting views of what makes the perceived (un)remarkable immediately sublime.

Caricaturing the slack-jawdness of what most associate with the local and other ideals of country-life: Fields of flora and fauna; remoteness existing far from the hyperpaced realities of urban centres; the atypical image of the naive country bumpkin that talks with a funny accent - the exhibition’s approaches, materials, and techniques present these as the potentials and limitations faced by locality.

Through its artists personal ties to East Anglia: Whether it be their past and present place to live and work, or stories connected to where they grew up in familiarity of Suffolk, Clare Palmier’s curation @palmierworks displays an embrace, rejection and absurdness to these many stereotypes and connections across its twenty exhibitors.

𝙾𝙷𝚂𝙷 𝙴𝙻𝚂𝙴𝚆𝙷𝙴𝚁𝙴
Today we are sharing MODERN PROBLEMS’, a group exhibition co-curated by OHSH exhibitor David Copper and OHSH Gallery Assistant Alessandro Morter at Gallery Hole, Suffolk, until 14th June. Including OHSH exhibitors Annie Edwards, Guy Haddon Grant, Judy Maxwell-McNicol, Benjamin Orlow, and Mathew Weir.

We love William Sharp’s description of the exhibition (who has also been an OHSH Gallery Assistant):

Echoed by Daniel Ruffles’ gripping sound piece, in response to AI’s 78 (alleged) problems of contemporary reality, MODERN PROBLEMS sits within this unsettled complicitness as to how abnormal reality has become. Full of harrowing depictions of how self-identity is measured, remediated and translated, David Cooper’s curation serves as a reminder to us all as to how our day-by-day existence is shaped by our last.

Using sleep as timeless methodology, it is a state where we are our most vulnerable. Once locked into REM, the body is paralysed, one which Alessandro Morter @plasticfloret calls a “condition of surrender.” Ruminating all the nooks and crannies of an unconscious flow of free-thought, our darkest and most revealing histories become visible the morning after, without even being conscious of it. #GUTUG

MODERN PROBLEMS holds onto this incentive through the details of its artists works: Judy Maxwell-McNicol invites us to wash our filthy mouths out; Mathew Weir’s flirts with memento mori; Jane K Morter drags us into the abyss; whilst Renata Adela’s pillow remains cool on both sides.

Amongst these many fleeting moments, all 20 works exhibited slip into worlds that speak to the unnerving truths, lived experiences and consequences of human action we wish were just a dream.

77th ALDEBURGH FESTIVAL
(Jun 12 – 28, 2026) @brittenpearsarts

Kate Giles: Solid Air @katesgiles
Ffiona Lewis: Slung Mugs @ffionalewis

Reflection and preservation act as archival portals to Lewis and Giles’ solo presentations at this year’s Aldeburgh Festival, where both artists have interpreted the cultural legacies left behind by two sets of masters: Lewis with Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears ; Giles with Jacob van Ruisdael and John Constable.

Spanning four centuries of art and music, the writings, readings and many images of their muses; accompanied by many on-site visits, studio based and plein air modalities of working present a unique, autobiographical response to the live-work environments they have not only responded to, but inhabited over the last 18 months.

Irrespective of vibrant interiors set within; the industrial brutalism of bridges and buildings set without; adventurous contrasts to the vast seas of European landscape ; or the comfort and kinship of the 50s/60s British garden patios, Lewis and Giles each engage with allegorical, yet literal, windows of time, suggesting a deep affiliation to their figures’ rich social and artistic histories from times past (taking us from the 17th - 20th-centuries through to the contemporary).

HĀM (HOME. HOUSE. VILLAGE.)
(May 13 – 17, 2026) @tricia_hall_art @ham_home_house_village

“Love what you’ve done with the place!”

Tricia Hall’s inaugural curation makes me think back to the YBA mentality of DIY culture, in how domestic places were utilised to shock and rock the socioeconomic conditions of living. Thanks Georgie Hopton @georgiehopton for this ref. on how outrageous it was to put shows on in low-rent living quarters (taken from BBCs ‘Sensationalists’ series).

Period furniture and all, Hall appropriated her soon to be home’s pre-existing 1940s-60’s decor in irony, with all the kitsch furnishings of speckled carpets, over-embellished wallpaper, and the TV dinner-readiness of mash potatoes on tab - which were equally delicious! The literal levels of their home spanned practices of painting, textiles, installation, live art, ceramics, steel welding, and even roasting tins to match its “homely” decor.

Across its three stories, the forgotten traces of previous lives were reimagined, with works reflecting the architectural histories and functions of the place Hall now calls home.

An amazing, short lived endeavour, this’ll probably be the best open house I ever visit - glad it’s my first!
