Very excited to announce that the amazing guitar luthier, builder and designer #CindyHulej @cindy_hulej from #CindyGuitars @cindyguitars at #CarmineStreetGuitars @carminestreetguitars is going to build me an amazing Baritone guitar with a body made out wood from #JohnLennon’s early west village house at 105 Bank Street and a neck made out of wood from the nearby 1860 Saint Anthony of Padua church at 155 Sullivan Street.

Coincidentally, Lou Reed’s office used to be on Bank St and Lou (and guitar tech Stewart Hurwood) is actually how I found out about Rick Kelly and Carmine Street Guitars. About 10 years ago I had a Rick build me two Kelly Tellies with wood from the legendary Chelsea Hotel and from Chumley’s (a speakeasy on 86 Bedford St where Hemingway used to hang out and drink), so it’s only a natural evolution and full circle moment that now I have Rick’s protege and pupil Cindy build me one of her amazing custom guitars. Her style is so unique, bespoke and personal and I’ve always wanted a baritone guitar for my collection and for my new studio and I’m honored to have her build it for me! I already have ideas for an album to record with this guitar!!!

Yesterday I went to Carmine St to pick out the wood and the templates for the body and the neck (which we are holding up here in these photos taken by #WilliamSemeraro @williamsemeraro)

The build will start soon and Cindy will document it as it happens, including her fantastic ideas for pickups and bridges which I’ll wait to disclose until we are ready.
