I don’t believe death is the end. Not when someone’s memory lives on this strongly. Not when love leaves such a lasting mark. And Grandma loved with her whole heart.

Among her five grandkids, she had a bit of a tradition—a running joke that became one of her trademarks. She would pull each of us aside at one point or another, look around like she was telling a secret, and say:
“Always remember that you’re my favorite.”

She said it with that little glimmer in her eye, and even though we all knew she said it to everyone, it still felt special every single time. Because that’s who she was. You were her favorite—not because you were perfect or exceptional or different—but because you were hers. And for her, that was always more than enough.

And today, while I grieve the space she’s left behind, I also get to carry forward the legacy of that love. I will take what she gave me and pass it on. Not just in memory, but in action.
I will remember her not just in mourning, but in imitation.

Let us be a little softer,
A little braver,
And a little more present for the people we love.
Because that’s what she would have done.

And if she were here now, I know she’d look at each of us, and with that same warm smile, say it one more time:

“Always remember that you’re my favorite.”
