Sometimes beautiful things rise up from our darkest moments. For Jeffrey Dorman ’06, two harrowing years spent in a pediatric hospital as his daughter recovered from leukemia left him searching for his own kind of healing, and spurred the creation of the Feeding Families Foundation.

Their mission is simple and fundamental: provide free meals at pediatric hospitals to caregivers looking after their children. A pilot program launched at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital has now rolled out to six hospitals across the country, with more to come.

“Everybody on the unit is in the same boat. They’re all nervous, all anxious. They have zero control of the outcome,” says Jeff, who was awarded Williston’s Trailblazer Award during Reunion 2026. “Our goal is to make a bad situation just a little bit better.”

Along the way, Jeff has also leaned on his Williston family for support. Classmates David Borowsky and Joe Wold joined the founding Board, and David Fontaine ’06, of Fontaine Bros., recently made a major gift through the Fontaine Community Foundation.

We are celebrating 10 years of the Grum Project on campus, and our first visiting artist this year helped us create an art installation out of cardboard.

@kieljohnson worked with our students to create cardboard letters, each uniquely crafted, that will spell put the final stanza of our alma mater, "O Williston."

“It’s not so much about the finished product as it is the social aspect of working together to achieve a larger goal,” Johnson said. “And that’s the other thing about my projects that I try to build—a lot of people do workshops where you leave with your mask or you leave with your little painting or you leave with the basket you made. I try to do these projects where you really don’t leave with anything but the memories and the experience, and you leave a little something to create a bigger, beautiful thing as a group.”

Thanks for spending time creating with us, Kiel!

Stay tuned to see where we're hanging the stanza 👀 taken in The Williston Northampton School by @willistonns

Win or lose this year, coach Tyla Taylor has noted something in this current group of @willistongvvball: their desire to get better every day.

“Our team has shown a real desire to be coached, which is exciting,” Taylor said. “They want to improve, they want to receive feedback, and they show a willingness to adapt and try new things."

Head to our website to read more about the volleyball program and how it's growing this year after losing a large group of seniors last year, and learn what makes the team one where players are excited to show up every day.

“If I have five tests, I’m still, like, ‘Oh my god, I have volleyball!”

The voices Williston students hear during their time on campus stick with them well beyond graduation, whether it was the inspirational speech in the locker room or the quick pick-me-up chat before a major test. The Williston Northampton Fund makes possible those experiences of encouragement, guidance, and inspiration as students start their journeys to being the leaders of tomorrow.

Make a gift to the Williston Northampton Fund to ensure that today’s students find their own voice.

Do you still hear a familiar Williston voice or saying? Comment below, we’d love to know!

We had such a blast making the “crowd sourced stanza” this week with Grum artist @kieljohnson . The 151 letters have been made and now it’s time to string them to be hung in their new home: the Cain Atheltic Center. ✂️ taken in The Williston Northampton School by @willistonns

Our 186th Convocation ceremony was a fantastic way to formally start our academic year. We were honored to have Seth Kassels ’97 back on campus to speak to students, and class of 2027 president Sam Dietrich also provided some great insights for students as the year gets going.

We also honored three teachers during the ceremony with instructorships or chairs:

- Adam Sussbauer was awarded the Emily N. McFadden Vincent ’49 and Bob E. Vincent Instructorship
- Stefania Nugteren was awarded the George E. Gregory and Catherine B. Gregory Instructorship
- Patrick Loftus was awarded the Henry M. ’52 and Judith M. Zachs Chair taken in The Williston Northampton School by @willistonns

Last week we reignited a Northampton School for Girls tradition, bringing back Phoenix Night.

Originally established in 1928, Phoenix Night invited NSFG students to reflect on challenges, regrets, fears, or old beliefs they wished to leave behind. Gathering around a fire, they would write those thoughts on slips of paper and cast them into the flames, symbolically letting go and looking ahead with renewed confidence.

On Friday, our Women of Williston group brought the spirit of the night back to life, hosting the event in front of Emily McFadon Vincent House. We had students, faculty members, and a few Head's Visiting Council members in attendance, and each took the chance to write down something they're leaving behind before putting the note card in the fire.

The Grum Project has quickly established itself as a staple program at Williston. Designed to bring working artists to campus for mini-residencies, the Grum Project has provided the school with countless gifts over the past 10 years, some of which still dot our campus hallways and walls.

This year's first visiting artist is on campus this week, as we welcome back Kiel Johnson (@kieljohnson) for his second residency. Johnson has students hard at work on a project featuring cardboard, and we can't wait to show off the results!

Our Club Fair last week was a fantastic showcase for all the ways students can explore their interests and hobbies. We have over 55 different groups on campus to join, and this year each club will host at least one event open to the entire school community.

ALUMS: Which club was your favorite as a Wildcat? Which one are you joining now?
