OOO Exhibition šŸ—“ 15 ā€“ 18 July 2025 šŸŽ‰ Private View: 15 July, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM šŸ“ Alsolike Gallery 16 Chance Street, London E2 7JB Participating Artistā€ØWill Moore ā€œThis Must Be The Placeā€ explores the idea of becoming lost in your mind and the process of finding a sense of home within it again. It reflects on the mental fatigue common to many in transitional periods of life , shaped by the digital age, the aftermath of a pandemic, and the pressures of adulthood. While this experience can be overwhelming, I see value in its vulnerabilityā€”a space where clarity and renewed appreciation for the world can emerge. The project began with an interest in thought loopsā€”repetitive, unresolved mental patterns. I was inspired by Dr. Gabor MatĆ©ā€™s The Myth of Normal, which examines how childhood experiences shape our behaviours. His insights, along with the concept of Automatic Negative Thoughts (ANTs), led to my first visualisations: ants circling the head and spiralling into the ear. Jewellery became a way to give form to these intangible emotional states. Research into ants introduced the idea of the ā€ant millā€œ or ā€death spiralā€œā€”a metaphor for the exhausting cycle of anxious thinking. This led me to investigate insect habitats and, later, the emotional significance of home. Finding images of my childhood houseā€”since lost to fireā€”triggered reflections on safety, memory, and transformation. Drawing from Gaston Bachelardā€™s The Poetics of Space, I explored ā€homeā€œ in multiple senses: internal, physical, communal, and ecological. I created my own composite material, Nestchip, made from found elements in meaningful placesā€”shells, concrete, plant matter from parks, beaches, and skate spotsā€”mixed and formed like wasp hives. This material symbolises how we construct mental and physical sanctuaries from our surroundings. Throughout, Iā€™ve been drawn to slow, meditative techniques like metal raising and stone carving. My final pieces reflect cycles of chaos and order, loss and regenerationā€”celebrating home as both a place and a process of grounding. by @willmoorre
