@rangesmusic have their new album out on October 16 on @athousandarms and @dunkrecords

This album, If, is a companion to 2016's The Gods of the Copybook Headings, with both albums centred around poems written by Rudyard Kipling.

It's a great record, feeling heavier and more explosive than their previous output at times, whilst still sounding distinctively like Ranges. Some of this is thanks to the addition of two new members, Tim and Tom from Belgian band Astodan. They have been playing and touring with Ranges for a few years now, but this is their first time contributing to the writing and recording process.

I've got a more in depth write up on the website if you'd like to read more.

The limited deluxe edition of If comes with a handcrafted bound journal and oak pen, along with other bits of ephemera.

I've included a photo at the end of this carousel that I took when I last saw the band play, at @the_post_festival in Indianapolis. It was stinking hot. I felt like I was going to faint. I kept grabbing handfuls of ice and just scooping them onto my head in an attempt to cool down. There were reports of a looming thunderstorm. We were feeling pretty exhausted. But they killed it onstage. And I managed to derail one of the cameras filming the event as I took photos 😬. by @willnotfadeblog

Some snaps of @adoneyeband and @murkydepthsnz when they played at Miramar Tennis Club at the start of the month.

Really nice gig. Warm, homely aesthetic. Great sound. Awesome music. Such a fun night

Shout outs to @dogmatic_band too. I don't have any photos of them because I was drumming during their set. by @willnotfadeblog

I just saw @jontoogood with @nickbollingergoneville for @verb_wellington, discussing Jon's book, Home Again. A really lovely evening hearing about the life of the singer of one of my favourite bands. Jon played Shihad's Run and Home Again, as well as a song from his solo album. It took me back to seeing Shihad at Meownui last year, which was the last time I expected to see those songs played. by @willnotfadeblog

Happy birthday to @cormaccreativearts , the endlessly creative and unhinged front man and artistic force from @planethunterofficial.

Love you Mac, looking forward to the next band roadtrip. by @willnotfadeblog

@ash_1977 played their debut album 1977 for their 30th anniversary tour at @sanfranvenue last night

@paddy_mc_cann grew up an hour away from the trio's hometown of Downpatrick. He has written a review of the the gig, reminiscing about how 1977 was the first album he ever had ( given to him by a cool older cousin), and marvelling at seeing Ash play this somewhat small venue, when they are also playing huge arenas elsewhere on the same tour.

@paddy_mc_cann had a chat with Mark Hamilton, bassist from @ash_1977 ahead of their NZ shows for their 30th anniversary tour of the album 1977. I thought it was hilarious reading about why Mark plays with a missing bass string.

My favourite pic I took of the @wellingtonseashantysociety show last Friday. Nick the drummer was leading the audience with shouting out "hooray" and "hoorah" at regular intervals. I lined up this shot, and I am really happy with the composition.

I've got a review of the night up on the blog is you want to to read it, along with a handful of other photos from the night. by @willnotfadeblog

I caught @wellingtonseashantysociety at Breaker Bay Hall on Friday night. This seems to be an annual fixture, when the band book the hall and play Friday and Saturday, as well as a children's show on the Saturday.

They released a new EP, Nevermind the Rowlocks, a few months back, and have been tripping up and down the country, playing mostly sold-old shows throughout. And there's little wonder why they've been selling so well. They play fun, novel music that invites the listeners to sing along and get involved. They also have "Fish Boy" Louis in tow, who does a masterful job as MC, setting the mood for the night and providing games and banter during the evening.

I spent some time writing about my connection to the band, and a review of the night. Head along to the blog if you're keen to read it. by @willnotfadeblog

@taylahmusicnz has released a new live video of her song Descendant.

Last year Taylah released her debut EP, and joined @flymyprettiesnz. This is the next phase of her career, creating a series where she is playing her original songs, using art made by Māori artists as a backdrop to her videos.

For this one, @looprecordings filmed Taylah at Brett Graham’s acclaimed exhibition Wastelands at the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.

This photo was taken at Taylah's Poneke show of her Tilt Tour last year.

@dr.kiyasu at @pyramid_club_aotearoa

I was absolutely transfixed. He started the ritual tuning a snare, and then proceeded to drum with brushes, sticks, and then played the table and mic in the most experimental and outlandish ways for the next half an hour. It was a full body performance that he completely committed to. by @willnotfadeblog
