My 20’s, forever immortalized.

I probably bought this shirt when I was around 17 at the Melrose flea market. No interest in Harley Davidson whatsoever, and even less interest in ever getting on a motorcycle.

It was cheap, fit me well, and my 17 year old ego couldn’t dare to be seen leaving the flea market empty handed.

Over the next 10 years, it somehow became the shirt I felt most like myself in. It’s traveled around the world and back, moved cities and apartments, seen career milestones and career lows, survived questionable hairstyles, paint marks from painting my first apartment, through new friendships and fallouts with old ones, and has held people I love who are no longer earthside.

Those closest to me have begged me to burn it. By the end, it had holes in places that made it objectively inappropriate to wear in public. So naturally, I started layering it over other clothes, extending its life against everyone’s wishes.

If there were a physical log of all the clothes I lost throughout my 20’s, it would probably span hundreds of pieces. Yet somehow, through all the moving, traveling and growing up, this silly shirt just kept coming with me.

So before it turns to absolute dust, it only made sense to find a way to commemorate 10 years of this incredible life.

An ode to my 20’s, a decade I’ll be talking about for the rest of my life.
