This Thursday, March 21st Will Penny will give an artist talk from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Penny will discuss the concepts and inspiration behind his current exhibition “Nothing to Fear.”

Door opens at 6pm, come to view the exhibition and enjoy refreshments before the artist talk begins at 6:30pm.  “Nothing to Fear” is on view now through March 23rd.

This group is from the Razorblade Suitcase suite. Built up through accumulated passes of scanning, painting and printing. Many layers of looping analog to digital and back again. Each work measures 16 x 20 in.

THIS SATURDAY ~ Avondale & Victory Heights Studio Crawl ~ On Saturday, February 21 from 11-5 artists in Avondale and Victory Heights neighborhoods will host a public studio crawl.

Artists Betsy Cain, Matt Toole , Tony Artemisia, Will Penny, Dana Richardson, Chris Moss, Eric Wooddell, Maxx Feist, Rick Petrea, Mary Hartman and Isaac McCaslin will host visitors in their studios.

We hope this public invitation will inspire you to get to know some artists in the community or, if you already know them, to take a peek at what they’ve been up to lately.

In this final week before our studio crawl we are sharing work from artists participating in the 2026 Studio Crawl. Today’s featured artist is Will Penny - @willpennyart

Combining traditional art making tools with emerging technologies, including painting, sculpture, video, and found materials, my work explores the sublimity and absurdity of our encounters and pursuits of the unknown. This investigation has been primarily focused on reconciling the opticality of the painted picture plane with its inherent flatness and real physical presence. Traditional methods of illusionism, mimicry of light, and the construction of volumetric form have been expanded and augmented to better engage the viewer’s spatial presence in relation to the work.

In an era of rapid technological developments and big picture questions about the threat of automation, digital sentience, and originality in the face of artificial intelligence, I consider my work a reminder to make light in the shadow of anxiety.

On Saturday, February 21 from 11-5 artists in Avondale and Victory Heights neighborhoods will host a public studio crawl. Artists Betsy Cain, Matt Toole , Tony Artemisia, Will Penny, Dana Richardson, Chris Moss, Eric Wooddell, Maxx Feist, Rick Petrea, Mary Hartman and Isaac McCaslin will host visitors in their studios. We hope this public invitation will inspire you to get to know some artists in the community or, if you already know them, to take a peek at what they’ve been up to lately.

This is a self-guided studio crawl. During the event you can find a map on our website or start at any artist’s studio you like and pick up a map there. Ology Gallery/Clayer & Co. will also have maps.
