Biblically speaking, it’s kinda difficult to feel sympathy for King Herod, but Berlioz almost gets you there in ‘O Misère des Rois’.

Having the incredible @graciefrancispiano at the keys doesn’t hurt either 😊

An excerpt from Carissimi’s ‘Iudicium Extremum’ led by @q.alessandro

Jesus (sung by me) describes his hunger, thirst, and nakedness whilst being incarcerated.

In this recording from the concert at the Palazzo Ducale in Urbino, you can hear the laughter of children playing outside the palace.

It’s one of those moments that makes me appreciate this place so much, and makes me so happy to return to @urbinomusicaantica week to sing some more Carissimi :)

‘Auf der Bruck’ (🐎🔥🤘🏻)

Was gonna write some long post about how scary of a piece this is to perform, but it turns out to be simple fun with @aucoincomposer at the piano, shredding, as he does.

Thank you @hudsonhallny for the beautiful evening ❤️ taken in Hudson, New York by @willsocolof

Some Debussy I can’t stop thinking about:

1. Mitsuko Uchida evoking the spirits of water and summer out of thin air in an interview about Debussy’s Etudes

2. Suzanne Danco (one of my favorite French singers ever) pouring out one of the most lyrical, simple, and fraught renditions of Mélisande the world has ever heard

3. Barbra singing a deliciously over orchestrated ‘Beau Soir’. Does she have intelligible French? No. And that’s not the point. Heaven!

SCHUBERT + THE INNER CORE

Back in November, @aucoincomposer and I went to Santa Fe and Albuquerque to try out five new songs he wrote, along with some Schubert. Well, now those five songs have turned into thirteen, entitled ‘The Inner Core’, and we get to perform the whole song cycle for the first time since the premiere back in February @lincolncenter

Since it’s pride month, this program is being made even gayer with the addition of those same six Schubert songs we performed back in New Mexico.

Join us at Hudson Hall @hudsonhallny on June 20th at 7:30 pm in Hudson, NY.

Meanwhile, enjoy some of the grainiest film photos ever captured, from that week in New Mexico 🌶️ taken in Hudson, New York by @willsocolof
