POSTS STORIES REELS

We’ve been sitting on some exciting news, and can finally share that THAT FRIEND is
headed to #Tribeca25th as part of the SPOTLIGHT NARRATIVE! We’re in the company of some
amazing filmmakers and projects that we hope you’ll also check out June 3–14 @tribeca

So much more to come soon! by @willsterling_

Now a Best Debut Feature nominee at Raindance, winner of Best Feature at Black Cat Picture Show, and the recipient of 2 Audience Choice awards at Athens and Golden Isles, plus 2 additional nominations for Best Feature across our festival board, and a heap of other official selections, A Cell Phone movie is the micro-budget feature that could!

What a year it’s been since the first trailer release but there’s still more on the horizon, like sharing this labor of love with the world at large. But until an official release, enjoy ACPM’s final trailer edited again by the incredible @carriedabbles. And remember, better to dream big and at least have something to show for it than to believe your dream is worth giving up. See y’all soon!

Synopsis: Shot entirely on a cell phone, the film follows a fictional version of writer/director/producer/star Will Sterling, a similarly out of work, struggling actor trying to impress Hollywood by making a movie on a cell phone about an out of work, struggling actor making a movie on his cell phone.

Even more exciting news, #FamebyMisadventure is also available as an audiobook from @audible! Sometimes people feel bad that they listened to the audiobook instead of “reading” the book but, 1, it still counts as reading! And 2, this audiobook was produced by moi. So in a way, this is really the definitive version. The Snyder Cut of my own book? In my ideal world, you listen along as you read. But it’s the stellar cast I owe everything to and I am beyond grateful to the absolutely INCREDIBLE @andreonthemic @crystalyleevo @mcrituli and @emilylawrencecreates, alongside myself, who bring this ensemble to life. I could not be more proud of these performances and practically owe them my life for being so patient with me. With an original score by @dbaldassero the book takes on a cinematic quality that I hope readers find themselves transported as they listen. If you know me you know how I feel about the importance of a good score and this one is 🔥. Enjoy these excerpts of each, go grab yours on Audible, and share with the fam and friends! One of the highest honors on the indie film journey is making the rental shelves! Very special thanks to Andrea Otto at @catamountarts for finding ACPM a place among so many other great films. And yes I DID deliberately choose to be next to my girl June Squibb. If you and your physical media store and or collection want a space for ACPM, DM me! DVDs and tour merch will be up on my website store in the coming weeks! by @willsterling_

Ease back into the workweek with the first part of our series, “Red Carpet with Rosaria,” where red carpet correspondent and style muse Rosaria Meek interviews filmmakers, what drew them to Athens Film Festival and of course - fashion!

Rosaria welcomes ATHFF sophomore Will Sterling to discuss his feature film, “That Friend,” and what brought him back to the classic city. The full interviews as well as filmmaker interviews will be available in longform on YouTube as well!

These photos always come up in my memories and I’m so glad that as I got a tattoo of The Daemon (the real ones know) as designed by @matt_gilmore he also came to photograph the process. This shot in particular has always been very special, echoing in a way the creation of said monster. As someone who has lived very intentionally to try to be a bright spot in others days and a constant reminder of the importance of love, there is a dark side to my own days that rarely makes itself known. This moment was about 6 months before I got sober and I was very discreetly determined to destroy my life. I don’t know that there was a plan involved, but I remember telling my therapist, “I think I’m waiting for something horrible to happen to force me to stop.” And very wisely he said, “Don’t do that.” But this specific tattoo marked a turning point in starting to do with my body what I wanted, having spent the 15 years prior certain that tattoos would cost me acting jobs. (They didn’t come anyway.) I think the freedom to choose what I wanted to do when it came to my body was paramount in my eventually quitting alcohol and drugs. (Funny how bodily autonomy can have that effect. Maybe there’s a certain argument to be made for one’s right to choose 🤔🤔🤔) Through the process of tattooing and pursuing my career from the perspective of being and becoming who I wanted rather than who I thought others wanted me to be, in many ways, are the essential elements in helping me to acknowledge just how much I don’t think I could be an effective storyteller, comedian, or human without the childhood tragedy that defined me, and set me on a course to finding so much common ground with Mary Shelley’s creation. I had been robbed of a great life very young, and as I grew I assumed it only fair I rob myself of my own life as some perverse means of penance for whatever it was I had done to anger the Gods. But, of course, none of that was true. The powers that be, whatever they may be, do not have it out for us. It’s our responsibility to make the changes in our lives in order to see brighter days.

And the bow on top to wrap up our festival run? A new poster! Sharing this great design from @domaznavour is LONG overdue, and I knew we’d need one with bells (laurels) on to celebrate the moment. But his doesn’t mean the end of the ACPM journey. There’s still more to share and exciting updates coming soon, maybe even including a screening near you!

On to the next messy chapter! 💪🏻🫠🤳
