"We know there's a price to pay, for love in a reflective age"

Arcade Fire's masterpiece Reflektor is heavily inspired by the 1959 film Orfeu Negro which is a Brazilian adaptation of the legend of Orpheus & Eurydice. The themes from the film are prevalent throughout the album and are the main reason I love it so much.

The cover is Auguste Rodin's sculpture of Orpheus and Eurydice.

Since I'm going vinyl crazy I thought I should start sharing my records on my gram. This would be a fitting album to start with had I posted this yesterday like I intended to, but I feel it is still relevant nonetheless.

Bruce Springsteen - Born in the U.S.A. (1984)

An album that exudes American independence and freedom with a title track that has become a rousing anthem of pride for our country....but not really.

Despite the superficial overtones of American nationalism, Springsteen's magnum opus is actually a stark criticism of America itself; the blind nationalism, struggles of the working class, and military-industrial complex were all well indicted by Springsteen throughout the album.

The song and album being adopted as a national anthem for America is hilarious albeit very fitting. The progressive values exhibited are very much pro-American as we should always exercise our right to protest and never settle for less despite what our government wants. Fighting against our corrupt government for the rights that everyone in America deserves no matter the color of their skin, sexual orientation, or country of origin is the most American thing we can do during this "festive" weekend. 36 years after this album came out we are still fighting that fight and that fight will continue until changes are actually made.
