within the world of Buddhism there’s few contemporary names that rise to the surface as prominently as Bhikku Bodhi, considered by many to be the number 1 buddhist scholar on the planet. i’d read his translation work for years, never holding an expectation or idea of meeting him. but with great fortune, he’s the teacher of my friend monk Burin, who invited him to present at a conference late 2024. getting the opportunity to speak with him and photograph him is an honor i’ll always cherish taken in Macaulay Honors College by @willyjames_

walking through prospect park yesterday when i happened upon 2 monks training in the same lineage of practice as myself - the Mahasi tradition of Burma (“Myanmar” present day). this convergence is exceptionally uncommon, and these monks - Panna Jota (left) and Sakya (right) - confess to me their challenge speaking english and provide me with the contact to the temple in Jersey.

the practice isn’t done at the temple, it’s done in the now taken in Grand Army Plaza Fountain by @willyjames_
