The Maverick Jacket looks like an overshirt. It rides like armor. Motorcycle pants that don’t look like motorcycle pants? 👀

We recently tested the Wind & Throttle Lara Cargo Motorcycle Pants, and these surprised me in a few ways.

At first glance, they look like a pair of stylish cargo pants you could wear just about anywhere. But underneath that casual exterior is some serious riding protection. They use a three-layer construction: an outer layer for the everyday look, a middle Kevlar layer for abrasion protection, and an inner mesh layer for comfort.

The Lara Cargos carry a CE Certified A rating and come with CE Level 2 armor in the knees and hips. The knee armor pockets are adjustable, too, so you can position the armor where it actually needs to be.

A few other things we really appreciated:

• Curvy-friendly fit with room through the hips
• XXS–5XL sizing
• Petite, regular, AND tall inseam options
• Double waist cinches on both sides — which helps eliminate that annoying waistband gap if you have wider hips and a smaller waist
• Pockets!
• Articulated construction for movement on the bike
• A little stretch so they don’t feel as stiff as you might expect from heavier protective pants.

These are substantial pants. That added construction is great when temperatures drop, but in a Tennessee summer, we definitely noticed the lack of airflow. If you’re looking for an ultra-lightweight, highly ventilated pant for riding in 95° heat and humidity, these probably wouldn’t be our first choice.

Where we think they make a LOT more sense? Spring, fall, cooler mornings, shoulder-season riding, and touring.

The extra weight that feels like a downside in the heat becomes a benefit when the temperature drops — especially when you’re putting in long miles.

We love the idea of a riding pant that doesn’t scream MOTORCYCLE GEAR when you get off the bike. These can take you from the motorcycle to lunch, exploring a town, or hanging out at your destination without immediately looking like you’re wearing armored riding pants.

The Bobber Jacket is the kind of leather jacket you stop thinking of as gear and start thinking of as yours. Double-breasted, diamond-quilted, CE AAA certified with Knox Microlock armor at the elbows and shoulders, 1.3mm aniline cowhide that gets better with every mile.
