The #Honda #Rebel 250 (CMX250C) is arguably the most important gateway drug in modern motorcycling history.

This unassuming 234cc air-cooled parallel-twin was manufactured practically unchanged for over three decades, starting in 1985. With a 330 lb wet mass, a dirt-cheap price tag (especially used), and an ultra-low 26.6-inch seat height it was a perfect beginner bike.

After taking a hiatus from riding while I lived in Chicago, I bought one of these for $800. I rode it for a year and then sold it. It was a great little bike. Totally unremarkable, but then that’s kinda the point of these.

There’s plenty of news out there this week so I wanted to focus on the new motorcycles that caught my eye this past week. First, we have the reveal of the BMW F 450 R. Then there’s the new Kawasaki Ninja 650 that’s available in Europe. And finally, BMW has revealed the (shocker) high price of the M 1000 RR Isle of Man Limited Edition motorcycle. The custom bike this week is a Kawasaki KX250.

In 2003, Chrysler’s design team took an 8.3-liter, 500-horsepower Dodge Viper V10 engine, bolted four closely spaced wheels to the block, added a pair of handlebars, and called it a motorcycle.

If you want to know why the #Honda #Hornet handles so well and costs so little, you have to look inside the cylinder head. Honda hid a piece of pure dirtbike engineering inside this modern #streetfighter.

Starting around $6,150, it offers a real twin-cylinder engine, timeless air-cooled styling, and accessible fun for less than the cost of many entry-level single-cylinders. That’s why I included it on my list of the 12 best motorcycles.

Reason to ride.

There’s also a restorative benefit to hitting that flow state. According to UC Davis Health, there are a wide range of well-documented benefits to meditation (which I see as a type of flow state), and the National Library of Medicine has documented studies showing that people who are more prone to entering flow states have reduced risk of a wide variety of mental and physical health issues.

The 1992 Honda NR750 was an unhinged engineering marvel. It had an oval-piston V4 engine with eight valves per cylinder, gear driven cams, electronic fuel injection, carbon fiber bodywork, side mounted radiators, single sided swing arm, and an underwear exhaust. 300 were made. And the MSRP was $50,000 … in 1992.
