POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Nirvana - Incesticide (1992)
.
A really interesting compilation of nirvana tracks off all varieties, ranging from 1988-1991. Released as a placeholder for their record label, since they were not ready to release an album at that point. It has some of the bands most exciting tracks in my opinion, a lovely mix of poppy tracks and chaotic heavy ones! Even though it mainly consists of music that didn’t make the cut for their previous releases, it feels like a lot of really creative songs went under the radar. by @windowsinthewind

Hole - Live Through This (1994)
.
Live Through This polishes the rough edge of its predecessor, leaving a much more cohesive experience. Keeping the punk elements, replacing the sludgy chugging riffs for a poppier approach. Each track holds immense emotional weight, clearly portraying a sense of vulnerability from one song to the next. An essential album and an exciting listen. by @windowsinthewind

Foo Fighters -Foo Fighters (1995)
.
With my gorgeous partners birthday coming up, I thought I’d request a few album choices leading up to that day. Today she decided to choose a personal favourite of hers, an album frequently played front to back. It is a really consistent and high quality album, one that feels extremely underrated in their discography? It teeters between dreamy and heavy, having distinct emotional undertones! A very melancholic affair, given it was written shortly after the passing of Kurt Cobain. I really feel like the fuzzed out guitars give this album a really unique psychedelic feel compared to the rest of their works… A must listen for fans of nirvana or 90s rock by @windowsinthewind

Killing Joke - Killing Joke (1980)
.
A lovely slab of music that left such a huge impact in its wake. With machine like grooves and buzzing guitar, you can see how it could influence what some would eventually call “Industrial Rock” music. It maintains a cold, grim atmosphere while grinding forward at a repetitive pace.
.
They don’t have the original album tracks on instagram’s library, so this alternate mix of the track Requiem is the next best thing… by @windowsinthewind

Green River - Dry as a Bone (1987)
.
An important and often overlooked punk project from the budding Seattle grunge scene of the late 80s. Containing members that would eventually partake in seminal acts such as Peal Jam and Mudhoney to name a few. The EP contains a handful of scuzzy and fuzzy punk tracks that ooze attitude, a must listen for fans of punk rock and the grunge scene. Super influential and extremely enjoyable to experience. by @windowsinthewind

Fudge Tunnel - Creep Diets (1993)
.
A well crafted album that seeps hatred from its very pores. A truly misanthropic experience, pulling from the deep depths of the human psyche. The heavy distortion perfectly accents the downtempo sludgy riffs, feeling like the embodiment of animosity. At times during this album they also utilize less aggressive playing which adds quite a bit of depth to the song list. A great listen if you enjoy bands like hammerhead or unsane, I personally love when these noise rock bands utilize sludgy riffing. Super heavy… by @windowsinthewind

Killdozer -Twelve Point Buck (1989)/Lil Baby Buntin (1987)
.
A prized possession of mine, a band I feel is truly misunderstood and under appreciated. These two albums compiled on this cd are possibly their best efforts. The style they bring forth is abrasive and shocking, played to the tune of blues drenched punk rock. The lyrical content relies heavy on shock value and sarcasm, typically containing stories from a working class perspective. Full of grotesque imagery and cartoonish tales of woe, the underlying message is one that is quite clear! A great set of albums by a fantastic band! by @windowsinthewind

Scorn -Vae Solis (1992)
.
An amazing industrial metal album by members of Napalm Death, quite different from that bands sound. This album ditched the blistering speeds of napalm death, instead deciding to bring it to a grinding halt. Every song trudges forward with such a haunting atmosphere, utilizing drum machines and samples to further add to the ominous sound. The music presented is not too different from that of Godflesh, but each succeeding album delves further into the electronic territory. Ditching the heavy metallic sound completely. by @windowsinthewind

Cabaret Voltaire - The Covenant, the Sword and the Strong Arm of the Lord (1985)
.
A great effort from a fantastic and extremely influential musical outlet! Cabaret Voltaire has influenced countless artists and helped in molding the future of music! This album was quite a ways into their career, at this point they had transitioned to a more dance oriented sound! Where their beginnings lied in a much more primitive industrial sound, this album really utilizes elements of funk music! The unconventional time signatures really give this album an ominous atmosphere, feeling uncanny for most of its runtime! I absolutely adore this group and personally prefer what their sound developed into by this point, a must listen for electronic music enjoyers! by @windowsinthewind

Catherine Wheel - Chrome (1993)
.
An essential 90s alternative album, one that feels like a dream drenched in reverb! The vocal delivery is so smooth that even during the heavier moments , they never cease to lose their dreamlike quality. An extremely satisfying blend of ethereal walls of sound and angst ridden alternative rock. A must listen for anyone quite frankly! by @windowsinthewind

Numb - Wasted Sky (1994)
.
Another fantastic group from Vancouver’s booming Electro-Industrial scene of the 80s/90s, the same scene that brought us Skinny Puppy and Front Line Assembly! Although their musical style could be seen as derivative, I find they have an interesting and well arranged sound to bring to the table! The atmosphere on this album is otherworldly, feeling apocalyptic and dystopian! The uncanny nature of the lyrics mesh with the diverse use of synths and samples in an incredible manner! A hard hitting album that has heavy moments and ethereal ones! by @windowsinthewind

Hammerhead - Duh, the Big City (1996)
.
Raw and sludgy noise rock that utilizes some unique time signatures. It really feels like the deep end on this album is cranked to ten, almost overpowering everything else in the best way possible! A feedback drenched good time that you should give a listen to, especially if you’re a fan of loud punk music with a metallic edge! by @windowsinthewind
