Wow! 10,000 of you...feels so special, not because of the number, but because of who is here.

So if you're new here...hi 💙 I'm Windy.

I’m a Vietnamese-American mom, children’s book author, and the heart behind this little corner of the internet. I create simple, bilingual books and share practical tips to help parents pass our language and culture to the next generation.

I started this page because I didn’t want culture to be something we only talk about “someday.” I wanted it woven into everyday life: storytime, playtime, messy moments and all.

If you're a Vietnamese culture-lover, or a parent raising bilingual kids (or trying your best 🫶), you’re in the right place.

Thank you for being here and growing with me 💙 by @windyphamhp

Welcome to Little Ant World. I was born and raised in Vietnam, and came to the U.S. when I was 17. As an Asian American mom, I hope to teach my daughter the Vietnamese culture and language. I am creating this space to share my journey and resources to other parents on this journey. Thank you for being apart of this community ❤️📚

What a beautiful and unforgettable AAPI Heritage Month 💛✨

This past month was filled with so much joy, connection, and excitement - from book readings and community events to sharing Vietnamese culture with families, friends, and so many new faces. Seeing children proudly learn Vietnamese words, foods, and traditions reminded me why I started this journey in the first place.

My heart is so full. Thank you to everyone who supported, showed up, collaborated, and celebrated alongside me. Representation matters, culture matters, and being able to share a piece of my heritage with the next generation means everything.

Ending this month exhausted, emotional, very pregnant 😂… but incredibly grateful.

“Lễ phép.”

In Vietnamese, it means politeness. But growing up, it taught me way more than manners.

“Chào ông bà đi con” taught me that everyone in the room deserves to be seen.
“Dạ” and “vâng” taught me that how you answer shows how much you respect someone.
“Đưa bằng hai tay” taught me to give people my full attention.
“Mời ông bà ăn cơm” taught me that nobody eats first and nobody eats alone.

I thought I was learning how to behave. I was learning how to love people well.

And now I’m teaching them to my kids.

Which rule did you grow up with? Tell me below.

I’m raising my kids in America, but I hope they inherit this.

I hope they find joy like it’s Tết, celebrating even in a hard year.
I hope they live “lá lành đùm lá rách,” sharing when they have more.
I hope they set out one more pair of chopsticks, so no one ever leaves hungry.
I hope they gather around the mâm cơm and tell each other about their day.
I hope they remember who came before them.

They might grow up between two worlds. I hope they carry the language that grounds them and the values that guide them, so no matter where they go, they always know who they are.

What do you hope your kids inherit from your culture? Tell me below.

Vietnamese parents don’t say “I love you.” They say this:

“Mẹ mua dư nên đem cho con nè.” (Mom bought extra, so she brought some for you.)

“Ba mẹ không cần gì đâu, con cứ giữ tiền mà xài.” (Mom and dad don’t need anything, you keep your money.)

I spent years waiting to hear those three words. Then one day I realized I’d been hearing them my whole life, just in a different language. The language of extra food packed, money pressed into my hand, worry disguised as nagging.

Thương isn’t said. It’s done.

What did your parents say instead of “I love you”? Tell me below.

If you grew up in Vietnam, you would know these food. Sometimes I crave them and miss them so much.

I don’t know what it is about childhood food. It never tastes as good anywhere else, because it’s never really about the taste.

Which one did I miss? What’s the taste of your childhood? Tell me below.

“Cu Heo.” “Thúi.” “Con Hai.”

If you grew up Vietnamese, your family probably never called you by your real name. There was a reason: the old belief says evil spirits steal the prettiest babies, so our grandparents gave us ugly names to keep us safe.

It was never meant for the outside world. Just love, in disguise.

What was your nickname? Comment below!!!

We love Vietnamese audiobooks! My toddler plays with them, sings along to songs I grew up with, and counts to ten in Vietnamese with better pronunciation than me.

What Vietnamese audiobook does your family love?

“Sao dạo này mập vậy?”

If you grew up Vietnamese, you don’t need the translation. You’ve heard it at every family gathering since you were twelve.

My mom says it to me all the time. My aunts say it too. And every time, I know it comes from love, and it still stings a little.

Here’s what I’ve learned: they’re not really talking about my body. They grew up when food was scarce, when a chubby kid meant the family was okay. So “you’ve gained weight” is their way of saying “I’m worried about you,” in the only language they know.

But here’s what I’m learning too: I can love where it comes from and still protect my peace. Now I answer the worry, not the comment. “Dạ, con khỏe mà, mẹ đừng lo.” And I leave my body out of it.

They care about us. It can still sting. Both can be true.

Has someone said this to you? How do you handle it? Tell me below.
