Suggestion for a unique wine experience in France: visit Arbois, the wine capital of the Jura region.

Everything here is a bit different—including the grapes! You’ll find local varieties like Savagnin, Trousseau, and Poulsard.

As you know, staying in the Champagne area can be pricey. But here’s a great solution: Couchsurfing!

I spent 4 days with a lovely older couple—still full of energy and amazing hospitality.
We shared home-cooked meals, swapped wine stories, and exchanged travel tips late into the night.
And trust me, after a life on the move, French people know a thing or two about good travel!

I just snapped a photo of some grapes here in Champagne—any guesses on the variety?

I’m not 100% sure, but since I can see a bit of blue on the skins, it’s probably not Chardonnay.
Most likely Pinot Noir or Meunier—both are dark-skinned grapes used in Champagne.

Whatever it is, it’s on its way to becoming something sparkling and delicious!

I suggest visiting the Champagne wine region by bicycle—seriously, it’s the perfect way to explore.
The roads are smooth, not too hilly, and you’re surrounded by vineyards the whole time.
Plenty of grapes to snack on (carefully!) and wine tastings are around every corner.
Ride, sip, and enjoy the view—what more do you need?

Carcassonne—I’ve been there, not just played the board game!

The real place is something else: massive stone walls, towers, and quiet little streets that feel frozen in time.

What is Sauternes and why is it special?

Sauternes is a sweet white wine from the Bordeaux region, made mostly from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes.

What makes it special is noble rot (Botrytis cinerea)—a natural fungus that dries the grapes and concentrates their sugars and flavors.
The result is a rich, golden wine with notes of honey, apricot, citrus peel, and spice, balanced by fresh acidity.

It’s complex, age-worthy, and one of the world’s most famous dessert wines. Up to 100 years?

Rosé—best rosé? It’s Tavel.
At least if you’re looking for depth and power, which isn’t something you usually expect from rosé.

Made in the Rhône Valley, Tavel is dry, bold, and full of character—more like a light red than a typical pink wine.
It’s the only AOC in France dedicated 100% to rosé, and it definitely stands out.
