Outside Sounds ☀️ Free improvised electronic music & sound in Queenstown’s great outdoors // plz repost if you know anyone who’d like this ✌️ //

Sunday 22nd November, afternoon. Location drops a few days before, so follow along to catch it.

I’ve been wanting to do this for a while. Bring a blanket and some friends, just turn up and tune out. All welcome ✌️ (Weather permitting, I’ll post here if plans change.)

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I actually want from making music.
Not more streams. Not necessarily more followers. Not another playlist placement.
I think I’d rather make something that someone chooses to spend 45 minutes with.
So I wrote a little about music, algorithms, attention, buying records, and why I’m increasingly suspicious of the idea that everything we love needs to be optimised.
The full piece is over on Substack (you know where to find that link, right?).

Turns out there’s quite a bit of #work to do for a series of live shows 🙈🙉🙊😬💩😬 This is fine! Thanks to @centrallakestrust and @creativenz for the opportunity and funding ✌️ (actually pretty stoked that I can legit call this a ‘job’ now 🙌) #livemusic #newzealandmusic #liveelectronicmusic #ambientmusic taken in Queenstown, New Zealand by @winterkeep.music

So my “I don’t want to be on your playlist” post did super well on the playlist. Ouch.

I noticed the irony too.

Turns out most of it wasn’t new people finding me, just you, showing up harder than usual. Which got me thinking: “a lot of people saw it” and “it meant something to them” are two very different things.

Full post’s up now on substack, link where you’d think 🙃

Current KPIs include looking out the window rather than picking up my phone ✌️

Thank Earth for having places like this to escape to in winter. Town has been crazy-ass busy recently - people, cars, more cars… time to breathe, relax 💜 taken in Riverton, New Zealand by @winterkeep.music

Three years ago today I released my first album. Still proud of it, and happy it was the genesis of a new friendship and creative companion in @uncleweed ✌️ #oldmusic #anniversary #nzmusic by @winterkeep.music

** best listened on 🎧 or big 🔊🔊 **

This track with @uncleweed has been written for a while now, but just hit for me today - it just felt like my minds zeitgeist and I needed to publish it somewhere ✌️

Really a piece of music and poetry for all those who have lost, or been a little too close to the edge. Big sounds, lots of feels. Dave’s words carry an immense weight to them, and I needed a score to complement... hope it lands for you x

Dave reads it here over dense, bass-heavy pads unashamedly inspired by the recent Dune movie scores - how amazing is Hans Zimmer?!

As always, thanks for the vibes @petitevictorycollective
