Fotitos de Norita nuestra princesita! 📷🐶

Back in November 2025, we decided to get a new pup! We never formally introduced her to y'all.

We picked Nora up from @gilardis_family_farm. She grew up in the pastures with chickens along with her parents and siblings so being a chicken dog is in her DNA!

Over the last couple of months training has gone really well and she is a very strong-willed pup. She isn't even a year old yet and is almost 100lbs! She definitely will do a good job helping us keep foxes, coyotes and other critters away from the pastures.

Nora is half Anatolian and half Great Pyrenees. She is a sweet girl with A LOT of energy and is super tough. We all love her dearly and she gets along with our other dogs.

Our pack total is now at 5 with Alice, Aida, Lupo, Enzo and Nora. Alice and Lupo are specifically working in the pastures and Nora has already joined them. Aida is our personal farm pup and Enzo was too human oriented, and couldn’t make it into the pastures so he’s with us humans as well.

We will soon be introducing our 6th pack member and are super excited!

In honor of Earth month (and Phil Sr. 66th's year around the sun), here is some info on how we take care of the land.

Small sustainable farming is more important now than ever as we see the impact that climate change and "growth" has on the environment. In order to keep trees healthy, Phil looks at each tree individually and not necessarily actual rows as a whole. Using sustainable methods and only using oil based sprays (organic) when needed, this limits overall use of even organic sprays. When things are looking good some crops go without sprays depending on the year.

His philosophy is that trees need to be taken care of in every way possible before the problem begins and that means keeping the trees healthy. By focusing on perfecting tree maintenance such as pruning, irrigation, soil health, thinning and mowing, crops are healthier and don't require additional management.

Diversity on a farm is also important for sustainable farming. We use our compost for fertilizer and having a mixture of plants and trees keeps the bees healthy and on site longer. Having animals on our orchard such as our turkeys, (and the wild turkeys that invited themselves into our property 😉) helps keep bugs out and the soil at the top as class type 1.

Biodiversity is more important now than ever as building continues to eradicate land diversity and industrial mono cropping continues to take over small scale farming. Our 6 acres on our Winters property is a healthy haven for the birds and animals. Sometimes looking at it and what it is now surrounded by, doesn't make sense but somehow it's still here and that's what counts. It's our way of saying that the land and health of the land is more important than anything else. by @wintersfruittree

We're always talking about the Phils' but what about Carmen?  Carmen was born and raised by a single mother in the border town of San Luis Rio Colorado in Sonora Mexico. Her parents were originally from Santiago Papasquiaro Durango, one of the most low population density states in Mexico where the great Sierra Madre Occidental resides in Tepehuan territory. Her family migrated to Sonora to seek work opportunities near the border. Many of her relatives would go on to work as migrant farmworkers commuting daily from Arizona back to Mexico including her mother. Growing up she would sometimes travel with her mother to different towns in both Arizona and Southern California. During the migrant protests in the 60s and 70s, some of her uncles  would march for farmworker rights.

In her mid 20s, Carmen decided to visit her estranged father who was residing in Northern California and was helping her with her citizenship.

Back in the 60s, 70s and 80s, there were more pathway opportunities for farmworkers to become U.S. citizens which is how her father and many of her relatives became naturalized. Something that has now become exponentially difficult for many farmworkers due to changes in the law. Politicians back then, saw the vital importance in our food systems and our dependence on those that crossed the border to do the work no one else wanted to do.

Carmen's father would frequently travel through small towns between Sutter and Yolo County and Carmen would accompany him. In one of these travels her father happened to stop at a farm stand in Winters CA. Phil happened to be working on the roof at the farm stand when they showed up. With the help of an employee, Phil was able to get Carmen's number and the rest is history.

Many of you know Carmen from the San Francisco Farmers Markets. She loves the city and its diverse group of people. She loves gardening and especially loves succulents and cacti. One of her favorite plants is the native Saguaro of Arizona & Mexico.

The farm has survived difficult chapters in its history and Carmen is a huge reason why the farm still exists due to her strong and resilient nature.

Ciao folks,

The air has been heavy lately. Metaphorically and literally especially with the heat that's gonna hit Northern CA soon. It's been more humid than is normal the last couple of years as the climate continues to change.

But things must continue to be picked! As corporations get bigger and larger and mono-cropping AG industries continue to tarnish the environment, it's important now to support small farms and businesses. Resistance is in existing!

June is finally over which means we're almost halfway through stone-fruit season. Here's what we have right now:

🍑Elegant Lady Yellow Peaches
🍑Sugar Giant White Peaches
🍑Candy Stripe Plots
🍑Spice Zee Nectaplums
🍑Dapple Supreme Pluots
🍑Flavor Supreme Pluots (ending)
🍑Redondo Apriums
🍑Honey Punch Pluots (starting)
🍑Flavor Grenade Pluots (starting)
🍑Bella Royale Peacotums (starting)
🍑 Honeylicious Yellow Nectarine
🍑 Artic Jay White Nectarine

Updates Below!

🌸We are thinking of officially moving to just one newsletter/blog. If you haven't done so, you can subscribe directly onto our website instead of using the Google forms.

🌸New jams have been uploaded onto our online shop. We're going to start uploading more products and expand our website a bit more which is something we've been procrastinating the past year...🫠

🌸 Every week we are going to update what we have available for stone fruit. You can find these updates on our stories. We will most likely do biweekly/monthly posts on our newsletter or Instagram feed, but quicker updates are more feasible on our stories right now.

It's going to be another busy summer and we've got so much work to do and lots of projects. We are excited to share more and will try to be more consistent.

We hope the space between spring and summer is treating you all well 💛🌼

Cheers by @wintersfruittree

You can now reach out and grab them!😂

We're in the beginning of the stonefruit season now.

Cherries and apricots are earlier in the season along with some peaches (we'll have less cherries this year compared to last year). As it gets warmer we'll also have nectarines, plums and hybrid fruits! 🍑

We may also have another improtu photo shoot with Phil Jr. like we did a few years ago on our stories (If you know you know)...
