This is Norsk golf club in Mount Horeb WI. Known as the troll capitol of the world you can find over 30 wooden trolls hanging out in downtown somewhere. It is a beautiful small town with a vibrant Main Street with restaurants and shops including the flagship Duluth Trading Company. Norsk is in a residential area and has 9 holes as a par 36, 2898y. Originally built in 1927 this is a popular golf course in this small gateway community of the Driftless. Hole 7 is the no.1 hcp at 400y par 4. It’s a straight hole with a fairway bunker on the right and a couple of trees bordering a small sized green. There are a line of houses on the left so be careful on your drive. The greens are soft and the course is not very long but it’s a nice track with friendly staff and great bar/restaurant where you can watch the game and tell stories of your round. This is Edelweiss Chalet Country Club in New Glarus WI. Founded in 1847 by Swiss immigrants and home of the great New Glarus Brewing company, it is a small quaint town nestled in the rolling hills of Green county. Hole 3 is the no.1 hcp hole as a par 5, 575y from the blues. There’s a slight dogleg right with a bunker on the right and tree near the middle of the fairway. Two bunkers on both sides of the green. The stimp meter is not very high here but the greens are undulating and depending on pin placement can be difficult. This course plays 6676y from the blues with a 72.2/127 slope rating. Edelweiss is open for public play and very economical. It is extremely picturesque and well maintained. The staff are very friendly and there is a nice bar and event venue. This is Deer Valley Golf course in Barneveld WI. Home of @vortexoptics which in my humble opinion is the best of golf and hunting range finders. As the golf season comes to an end this place reminds me it’s time to get my hours in the tree stand for my other hobby, bowhunting. Deer Valley has 27holes consisting of the ridge, prairie and valley 9 hole tracks. This course showcases the beauty of this small town with its rolling hills and scenic landscape of the Driftless region. Hole 13 is the no.2 hcp at 520y par5 from the blues. This hole was featured on the Wisconsin state journal golf guide years ago and represents the challenge of the up and down narrow fairways of this course. You have to carry 200y to go over a fairway tree and up a hill. Long hitters can get a roll although it’s a blind shot. The right is prairie hazards and the greens here are surprisingly fast. They are often sloped like the fairways so you need to land it at the right spot of the flag. The signature hole is no.5 on the Ridge. It’s a par 3 to a virtual island green with a 100 ft drop. Hole 6 Westbrook Hills Golf course in Plain WI. This is a 190y par 3 from the whites where you have to hit over a small stream and land onto a small green. The greens here are soft and not very fast but this hole is very sloped so making a birdie or par can be difficult on this no. 1 hcp hole. Westbrook Hills is within a residential area in this small quaint town. Located on American Legion Drive, this is a 9 hole course with a par 33, 2424y. You don’t need a tee time and it’s based on the honor system where you can drop off money in a box. I have never visited Plain but hunt on land not too far from here. I was pleasantly surprised by the views of the countryside and landscape. That is one of the reasons golfing in Wisconsin is such a pleasure. You can visit small towns and appreciate all the scenery and beauty this amazing state offers.
